Guest guest
I am so sorry to hear you have to have your surgery redone. How long ago was your original surgery? Does your OS know how disappointed you are? Ooops, just saw date (3 months ago) What exactly did you have done in upper and lowr? (EX: mine upper was moved up - for very gummy smile correction, lower advanced, i had no chin) Will you be going to someone else? > I had upper and lower 3 months ago and it looks like I'll have to go > back to have the maxilla redone. Guest guest
My 3 month follow-up is tomorrow and my OS will hear my concerns. had bands removed at 8 1/2 weeks and all was ok. condyles obviously reset themselves when bands removed and left me 5mm open in front. I already saw another OS for a second opinion but he wants to wait to see what my current OS has to say. I was advanced both uppr and lower 8mm with an 8mm genioplasty adv. to cure sleep apnea. doc said it would be a piece of cake and I believed him! my bite was fine before so he either didn't prepare right or had some interaoperative problems that he didn't reveal. main problem is 1st surgery was covered by insurance which has since lapsed and now I'll have to pick up the check for the second which as you know isn't cheap. Do I let the first OS fix his mistake or should I trust someone new? what a dilemma. hardest part is hearing all the people who's surgery went right the first time and having to put my life on hold for another 6 months minimum! enough of the pity party for now it feels like nap time. eric > > I had upper and lower 3 months ago and it looks like I'll have to > go > > back to have the maxilla redone. Guest guest
Hi eric, Sorry you've become a candidate for a second surgery. It does happen (happened to a friend of mine). Some people opt to have their surgery redone by the same surgeon (as did my friend, and I would do the same if it had been me - he's a top notch surgeon - we had the same surgeon). It's really dificult to say what you should do in this case - if your surgeon has a good reputation, and you get answers you think sound realistic from him, then I'd go with him again. Second opinions are a good idea, but keep in mind that the first surgeon is a known factor now, the second is an unknown. I think that's why most I've read about go back to their first surgeon. Talk to your surgeon about your $$$ dilemma too. You may find that he waives some or all of his fee. I've also read that open bites are notoriously hard to fix, either orthodontically and orthognathically, so it may not be his fault. Sorry you have to deal with this again, I can only imagine how difficult that must be for you. Hope that helps, > I had upper and lower 3 months ago and it looks like I'll have to go > back to have the maxilla redone.
