Joplin,

My ortho wanted me to start cranking the day of the surgery as well.

but the OS didn't give me the go ahead till day 4, then I started

cranking once in the morning and once at night. There really isn't

any pain from the cranking. Today is the 8th day of cranking and now

there is a feeling of preasure from the cranking, I think because it

is now going past where the Surgeons took it while I was under and

its making new space. So I am 15 cranks into it and the gap is large

and growing.

I am really glad I went through the surgery. Other than the first

night, the whole experience wasn't any worse then when I got my

wisdom teeth removed. But I'll tell you, seeing my cross bite being

corrected more and more every day is well worth it. I am at work now

and doing fine. I feel like I could get back into the gym to gain

back some of this weight I've lost (10lbs), but doc says to hold

off. I am getting better at eating day by day. Now to get this gap

closed.

Arde, good to hear from you!

How much more cranking do you still have to do? My ortho estimates 7-

10 days once a day. I guess my bite is not that much off, but they

need to make space in the front area of my mouth.

What kind of changes have you noticed in your front teeth area? Can

you see your dental arch getting wider or looking different?

For how long does your doctor want you to hold off training?

How have you adjusted to wearing the expander?

I feel like I'm a living question mark these days LOL!

Keep smiling and keep posting :)

The Questions are ok, I had a million before the surgery too.

I need about 5-6 mm of space on my upper jaw to fix my bilateral

crossbite and make space to bring my laterals forward. Its really

amazing watching my crossbite fade away. I will need to crank for 3-5

more days, depending on my progress after tomorrow. I will go see my

ortho and we are going to make the final decision. The gap is really

not that bad, but it has given me a new appreciation of peoples gappy

smiles. My pallet is widening and I do notice is greatly. I have

more space in my nasal breathing cavity, so I can breath better

through my nose. I actually woke up with my mouth closed for the

first time, I think ever. I can clearly tell the difference from the

inside with my tongue as well. Having had a very narrow and pointy

arch before, the difference is immense.

I know that your probably concerned with the visual or aesthetic

change to your face from the expansion, and though I still have some

swelling and attest most of the change to that, the widening of my

pallet has created a slight lift in my upper lip, and a slight

progression of my upper jaw (self correcting my over bite).

I am not sure what you mean by training...

The expander is a pain in the ass at first.. swallowing, talking,

eating, and breathing even is a bit tedious at first. but i am

quickly adjusting. And as many have said in this group in the past,

I think by the end I will not even notice it anymore. I admit to my

lisp however, and am learning to embrace it.

Also, I will have a set of pictures up soon showing the progression

from before to braces of SARPE. Hope it helps.

Arde, thanks for the report :)

> I am not sure what you mean by training...

Sorry, I meant exercising. I think you mentioned your doctor telling

you not to start up on that sort of physical activities yet, am I

right? Did he say why?

I'd love to see some!!!

BTW, how did you feel right after the surgery? Anything in particular

I should be prepared for?

My OS has reserved 1 hour for the surgery and they tell me I'll

probably stay at the recovery room for 2 - 3 hours afterwards.

How's work with the appliance? I think I don't get any work done

worrying about all this. I hope it'll pass as soon as the first step

called SARPE is taken. I'm prepared for one week off work. How long

did you stay off?
