Guest guest
Hello Arde, I was just wondering, did your OS give you any other options to widening your palette? I had my upper jaw widened (along with shortening the upper and lower advance) all in one surgery. I think what I had done was called a segmentation. Does anyone know why some dr.s go for segmentation and some go for the SARPE? Just curious. Tomorrow (8-31) I will be 2 weeks post-op Well good luck to you and happy healing! Guest guest
Arde, I'm glad to hear you're feeling so positive about your SARPE! Keep up the spirits! You're already well on your way to your improved smile Your case sounds rather similar to mine. I also have crooked teeth, but they've always been kind of symmetrically crooked - some say personal, of course - so that it has not bothered me THAT much through the years, but my impacted canines have always been a source of worrying to me and my dentist so now I want to stop being concerned about them. Have you started turning the key yet? How many days did your doctor tell you to wait until starting with it? My ortho says I should start turning the key already the day after the surgery which sounds different from what people have been telling here (like 5 days or so). I'd be glad to hear about your progress, will you keep us posted? - Joplin, in anticipation of her own SARPE some time this fall

Guest guest
Hi Mindy, My OS was telling me about segmentation or ostiotomy(sp?). For my case it was not possible to segment because of my dentition, or the way my teeth were aligned. Also, it depends on if they are going to advance the jaw or just expand the jaw. My case only requires expansion so they did not complete the ostiotomy or a complete segmentation as the expansion could be achieved with the expander device. I healed very quickly as a result of not having to detatch the jaw completly, but it is now up to my ortho to make sure things go where they are supposed to.
