I don't watch Dr. Phil, mostly because I think the man is a boob. But

tonight's topic caught my eye - generally on whether society has an

obligation to make special accommodations for obese people, and a brief

discussion about coming to peace with being obese. (I say brief because the

show turns out to be mostly commercial breaks with a few minutes of topics

thrown in there.)

So, my formerly obese husband and my formerly obese self sat watching and

commenting. Our concensus was that almost all of the obese people we know

are responsible for their size, and they almost all refuse to acknowledge it.

The obese people on the show pretty much refused to take responsibility

either. As much as I like to blame my astounding metabolism for my obesity,

it really boiled down to the fact that I was not willing to make the physical

and emotional sacrifice to limit my food intake to what *my* body needed (not

what's normal, not what the person next to me could eat, but what was right

for me). And neither of us believed society should make any special

accommodations - we used to have this discussion when we were obese with no

hope of recovery too.

Just wondering if anyone else saw the show?
