Siff lips....and banding time (i asked the surgeon)

Well, I am 13 days post op and I the swelling has gone down so much

that my family is saying: You look almost normal. (I think its a

compliment). My greatest annoyance though, is that my lips are so

stiff that I can only stretch them into the tiniest of smiles. Which

looks more like a grimance. I find this really frustrating because

without being able to speak--a smile can do alot to communicate. I

can't understand why they are so inflexible when most of the

swelling is gone!

Oh and I asked my dr. about why so short a banding time--only 2

weeks for upper and lower! He said that my bones fit well togother.

That, in combination with the fact that studies show that recovery

is not sped up or improved by increased banding/wiring time, made

him suggest 2 weeks of banding. He said that most people decide to

keep them on a week longer--b/c they feel more secure that way. I,

believe it or not, may choose to do the same.
