Guest guest
Hi everyone... I am new to the board. My name is , I live in Miami. I have already turned in all my paperwork to the surgeon's office (3 days ago)and they advised that Aetna requires them to mail it. Is there anyone out there with Aetna that can tell me more or less how long they take to advise if approved or not ??? Should I follow up with the insurance company... Thanks,

Guest guest
--, I have Aetna in Texas. Here the insurance company has two weeks to acknowledge that they have received the paperwork and then two more weeks to approve or deny. That may vary with each state and the requirement they put on the insurance company. Aetna is very rigid about documentation here. Good luck. I should be hearing something in the next two weeks about my (hopefully) approval. Have a great weekend! Dot E. Guest guest
--Andra, I live in Fort Worth. I am pre-op waiting for insurance approval and an okay from the cardiologist. If all works well, I could have the surgery about the first of March. My surgeon is Dr. son at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas. I have been working on this since last May. I am trying not to get my hopes up too far. Aetna has to approve or deny in the next two weeks. My surgeon's office said my documentation looks good so cross your fingers. Are you in Texas also. Guest guest
Dot, Yep, I am SW of FortWorth, a little town called Lipan. We also have Aetna and I have been having problems finding a surgeon we like in this area. Can you give me some more information about your surgeon. I don't remember seeing his name on obesityhelp. I have checked out every doc on there. We really want to go with Dr. Provost but his waiting list in Dec. was Jan. 2005 and they will not set an appt. until you have insurance approval. My husband is the one wanting the surgery. I am overweight too but know that this is not for me. I am doing SouthBeach and so far have lost 16 lbs in the last month. I am determined to do this without surgery. My DH though is 6'1 " and 430lbs and is having blood pressure problems and joint problems and just overall feels he will feel better not carrying all that weight. I am so very afraid for him but I am not sure what scares me more. The danger of the obesity or the surgery. I just want him to Live and be Happy. So I am supporting him if this is what he wants. I have been dealing with all the surgeon and insurance stuff though. He doesn't like to do all that stuff. I would appreciate any info you could give me. Thanks, Andra
