Hi ,

My name is . I live in California. I guess it would depend on where you

live. Kaiser here uses Pacific Bariatric in San Diego. I had my surgery on

December 12, 2003 and have lost 45 pounds thusfar. I found one book at

wlscenter.com. The lady that wrote it got into the business after her surgery

and now has a website with a newsletter that I subscribe to and goes all over

the country speaking about the surgery and subsequent lifestyle. Her name is

Barbara .The book really didn't give me any more information than I have

been able to get from the internet support groups and doing a lot of research,

mostly on the internet. I do subscribe to 2 magazines that are very good. One

you can get from obesityhelp.com-a fabulous resource in itself. The other is WLS

Lifestyles. You can search the internet and you will have to send them a check

or use Paypal, but the magazine is still worth the trouble of not being able to

pay directly online.

If you are in California, you may also need to go through a 12-week course that

Kaiser has to prepare you for what to expect. I highly recommend attending.

Because of all the research I did, I felt so prepared. I knew more than most of

the people who were getting the surgery at the same time, and for me, most

importantly, I was ready mentally. You need to prepare yourself for the

lifestyle change. It is major, but if you can get your head into it, then you

will be less likely to have head hunger after the surgery. I don't get hungry or

have cravings anymore because I know it would be all in my head. You're really

not supposed to feel real hunger for almost a year. I do know when I need to eat

and I have had Big Eyes and had to reel myself in, but I realize that it's my

mental state and try to deal with it. I also recommend seeing a therapist that

you feel comfortable with. It took me three times to find a person who was

positive and treated me with respect. I don't see her that much now, but I had

someone who I could talk to that would help me get my feelings organized and

help me through it.

I wish you all the best. Kaiser is great. Use all the resources that they have

to your advantage.

Regards,
