Guest guest
Hi, I'm 4 weeks post op tomorrow for upper, lower and genio. All in all my experience was much better than I expected. I'm still banded but I can remove the bands to eat now so I'm much happier. My chin and lower lip are still completely numb. This is probably a good thing because the inside of my lip is all torn up from the hooks and also the new lip placement. I find myself biting a portion of my lip and not even knowing it. My OS did a special procdure where they took my blood during surgery and spun it to make it really platelett rich. They then injected that blood back into the the surgical areas to promote healing. While I did have swelling and bruising, I believe that this procedure really reduced my swelling and promoted healing. I was wondering if anyone else had this procedure done during thier surgery. I, like everyone else, was very anxious prior to surgery. But it really wasn't as terrible as I worked myself up to think. I did have some complications. One of my incisions became infected and I had to go the the Dr. every day to get the infection cleaned out. The scarry part was that I didn't realize it was infected, because I couldn't feel any pain in that area. They put me on stonger antibiotics and it appears that the infection has cleared up now. I wish anyone facing this surgery in the future the best of luck. Regards,

Guest guest
Hey , I will be 4 weeks post op tomorrow also, from upper and genio. Everything is going ok, except for the fact that I went to the OS today and my midline has shifted, but my orthodontist seems to think they will be able to fix it with rubber bands, but for now I am seeing the OS and the Orthodontist every week to monitor it, which is going to be a huge pain, but I guess it will be worth it if it works because I really don't want to go through the surgery again!! I have not heard of the blood taken during surgery to help recovery, but it sounds good. Anything that will speed up the recovery time I would be willing to try. My nose, cheeks, and upperlip are still a little swollen and I am really ready for them to go back to normal, but overall I can't complain. Hope all continues to go well for you, > > Hi, > > I'm 4 weeks post op tomorrow for upper, lower and genio. All in all > my experience was much better than I expected. Guest guest
That's scary! How did you figure out it was infected? Thanks! Guest guest
Hi Casey, The scary thing was I didn't know it was infected. The OS saw it immediately upon my weekly exam. He cultured it right away to be sure that he prescribed the proper antibiotic. ( I was already on an antibiotic but he prescribed a much more powerful one) The only thing I did notice was that the left side of my face was more swollen than the right. If I gently pushed on the left side, I could feel a warm sensation which I now know was the infection draining. But I didn't have any pain that you would expect with an infection. I'm just thankful that I have a very caring and capable OS. -- In orthognathicsurgerysupport , " caseymynn2000 " <caseymynn2000@y...> wrote: > > That's scary! Guest guest
Thanks! I've seen both the OS and ortho and neither have noticed anything but that just seems so scary. You're right, when you're numb you really don't know what's going on in there Casey > > > > > > Hi, > > > > > > I'm 4 weeks post op tomorrow for upper, lower and genio.
