Guest guest
I had my appointment with the ENT yesterday. I've been having problems with my throat (I'm 5 months post-op) where I feel like there is something stuck in my throat and sometimes when I talk, my voice disappears all of a sudden until I cough and it comes back. He did the scope thing (where they go with a tiny camera through your nose to look in your throat, didn't hurt at all by the way!) and he concluded that I have a " post-intubation granuloma " . With the surgery, while intubation (or extubating) they scratched my vocal cord with the tube. Because of bacteria and/or acid reflux the area becomes inflammated. I've gotten medicines (nexium, calcort, and zithromax) just to see if it will go away like this. But most likely I'll need surgery because it's been there for 5 months already, where they cut the " bump " away. It takes only 10 minutes but I'll be out completely. Unfortunately, there is a big chance it can come back, especially if you have acid reflux and/or bad voice habits (where you speak without breath support). I never knew i had acid reflux but apparently you can have this without knowing. My ENT told me I cannot speak too loud, and I should watch what I eat (no acidy foods, cafeine, chocolate < the last one is verrry diffult). I really hope this goes down with medicines because I do not want to do this surgery... I am very bummed out right now...
