Guest guest
I was in my surgeons office the other day and a lady that was in there said the same thing. If I remember correctly she was told that Cigna will no longer pay for it in Texas, (this is probably something they just told her) but it appears it must be everywhere. My step-daughter works for Cigna and I will ask her about this subject and see what she says. If I am not mistaken shouldn't ANY insurance company notify you in writing BEFORE ANY exclusions are written to your policy? I am so sorry that you have this news. I am currently awaiting insurance approval. I have Unicare and I am afraid they will deny me for the same reason. My policy has weight loss surgery as an exclusion, however it doesn't say anything about excluding weight loss surgery if I have a medical necessity letter (which I do---3 of them). I asked my bariatric coordinator and she said for me to gather all of my information up and she will submit it. She said they have paid for it in the past. Our policy is an individual policy because my husband and I are self-employed, so therefore it is a bit different than most group policies. So I guess time will tell. I hate this waiting game, but I will remain patient. If the insurance company doesn't pay anything then I will find other financial ways to get this surgery done. When or if the insurance company denies you, don't they have to give you a reason?
