Guest guest
Thanks Becky! A little info about my daughter. She is 10yo and is diagnosed with Dyspraxia, SID and ADHD. I heard from some of these gals on the dyspraxia list that this group is full of wonderful information! I am starting to look into getting her tested for allergies and starting her on omega supplements. Any info regarding your success with omega supplements would be greatly appreciated. Guest guest
Ok, here is our story: was induced at 40 weeks. Come to think of it, with the exception of her, my other 3 daughters were on average 1-2 weeks early. I always thought it was funny that my developmentally delayed daughter was also delayed in being born. LOL She is my 3rd child. Everything seemed normal at first. She slept A LOT which I was thankful at the time because I also had a 2yo and 3 1/2yo. The first thing I noticed was feeding. She would never finish a bottle. Even as an older baby, she would drink at the most 4-5 ounces. Looking back I think it may have been her mouth just getting tired but some ladies have mentioned maybe a milk allergy. She also suffered severe constipation for years, until we finally put her on a prescription laxative. I really didn't think too much of the feeding, she was a little baby and I thought that was just her. I then noticed that when pulled to sitting position her head would still hang back, she was unable to use her neck muscles to lift her head with her shoulders like most babies do at an early age. The doctors told us not to worry. By age one we did know something was wrong. She wasn't crawling or even trying to make sounds. She couldn't even hold herself up in crawling position. Over the next year she saw a neurologist, a geneticist, therapists and had blood work taken for fragile x, chromosomal study a metabolic screening, she also had an MRI and a BAER test for hearing. Everything was normal. She started to crawl around 16 motnhs and started walking around age 2. She didn't talk until age 4. She has had IQ tests done and they are normal although I will never forget the neurologist examining her at age 3 and basically telling me that was as good as it was going to get. A drooling baby on my lap. I cried all the way home. She sure has proved him wrong!!! Ever since then I lost faith in many doctors. is now 10 1/2. She had been attending public school up until Christmas break. I am now homeschooling her. We started the NACD program 3 months ago and were having trouble keeping up with the exercises and schoolw ork so I decided to homeschool her in order to provide more therapy. still can't tie her shoes and she cannot ride a bike. Her writing is horrible. She loves to swim under water. I think the water surrounding her helps her with her SID. She doesn't seem to have too many problems with her speech although she does have a really small underbite, she has been in braces since age 7. She somehow manages to talk without closing her lips! Up until recently I had thought that food allergies really didn't apply to us. I do think she may be lacking in vitamins and may have some toxins in her body. I am planning on getting some testing done soon but trying to figure out what and where. I also want to start her on omegas because I have read so many good things about them and am considering removing milk from her diet but have not gotten the courage to do so, this child loves milk products!! Her diagnosis was Dyspraxia or Global Delay and SID. Once she started school they said she was also ADHD. I look forward to being a part of this group and learning more about what works for y'all and what doesn't. Thanks! Guest guest
, Go into the lab file and have the labs done. Also find a DAN (Defeat Autism NOW!) doc. May I suggest reading Healing the New Childhood Epidemics, by Bock and Changing the Course of Autism by Jepson. Excellent reads. Be as openminded to biomedical as you can. It has brought my boy so far. www.Dorfman.com is a wonderful Nutritionist very knowledgeable in Apraxia. So many are not! She is terrific. Guest guest
If you google Dr. Klinghardt you will find some interesting things about dental and autism. Don't get hung up on that word...it is where the $ is. The info. is helpful. My kids do not have underbites but I suspect mercury is an issue. Daughter, when we were panning for gold this summer (gold salts are said to bind with mercury)had an underbite only that day. Strange. Son used to??? Daughter needs a palate expander. A friend who hs chelated and is involved in ASD and Apraxia biomed tells me stories of kids near recovering with palate expansion. Daughter is NT so I am not sure what will happen. Lastly, there is a book by Weston Price that goes into teeth as a reflection of general health. > > > > Thanks Becky! > > > > A little info about my daughter. Guest guest
I started Dr Bock's book today and I am hooked. I cannot put the book down! I have a question though, from what I have read so far the kids are young.....will it still work for my child who is 10 1/2? I know Janice has had success with Mark but has anyone else tried biomedical therapy with older children and been successful? Guest guest
, I am into the book as well. About page 100. Great book and I am happy that I have had some great help along the way which aligns with his methodology. Dont give up on your child now that your child is 10. Just keep moving forward. You can and will get to the root of the problem. As Dr. Bock states, he treats the whole child not the symptoms. Many adults even can use this to thier advantage. Look at how far Janice's Mark has come so fast! If you may have read in some of Janice's posts earlier. Biomedical and Thearpy work nicely together. I have also been using this approach as well. With a mother who possess a vested interest in this like your self, your child may progress nicely and probably with a bit of a head start once you are using biomedical and therapy. Hope this helps, Colleen
Guest guest
No one can say. It is harder with an older kid but there is always hope and you do have to consider what the particular issues are. With girls I always think the period is a plus. I have an 18 year old PDDNos friend doing great on diet and allerginfree measures. > > I started Dr Bock's book today and I am hooked.
