Guest guest
I'm figuring (although you don't say so) that what you have is internal wires, with elastics rather than more wires holding your jaws together). I don't think the wire removal is something you'd go and do for fun, but most reports have been that it actually, amazingly enough, isn't that painful. I did not have wiring, so I can't address this from experience. Also not from my own experience: Many people do have trouble opening, after a period of being wired shut. I think the recovery is a gradual thing, and your doc may want you to wait a while before doing exercises, or he/she may give you a program to start up right away. In either case, listen carefully to your instructions and try to do exactly what you're told. " how long before you notice results from the pain " ???? I am not sure what you mean here. Are you asking how long before the pain goes away? Generally, there is not a lot of pain, but " how long " questions can seldom be answered. It depends on what's hurting and why, how you're healing, etc., etc., etc. Your doc is also the best one to give you an estimate here. Best, Cammie > > I am 4 weeks post op. Guest guest
1. For those that have been wired, how sore are your jaw/joint muscles when opening after you have everything removed? Not too bad, aspirin etc works fine for the little bit of discomfort 2. Are the exercises easy or difficult and how long before you notice results from the pain (ok that is a two parter question Tongue depressors used 2-3x each day, start with 1 then add another one each day till I was able to put in about 20-25. 3. Was given Novocain and put under. Mouth felt weird after all the wires were removed... Recovery post brace removal I am 4 weeks post op. I have been wired shut this whole time. Today I will have the current rubber bands removed (my jaw is wired tight) and will have new rubber bands put on after my bite is checked. The new bands will be placed on looser allowing some movement. In 2 weeks, it all comes off. I have 3 questions: 1. They gave me a choice of being put under or to have a series of locals for the brace and wire removal. After being told the numbing was no different than being numb for general dental work, I opted for the locals. Was the removal easy or painful for you and how long after the numbness wore off were you in pain (I guess another two parter). Thanks. Guest guest
" how long before you notice results from the pain " ???? I am not sure > what you mean here. Are you asking how long before the pain goes > away? What I meant here was if after everything is removed and you have some discomfort in the joint and muscles from being wired, can you expect a few days, weeks etc for some of that disomfort to subside with exercise and pain meds. I understand your point that it is hard to say, but wondered if some people found their muscles responeded well with time and exercise. Thanks. > > > > I am 4 weeks post op.
