Zilactin is OTC. My dentist actually recommended it. The version

that doesn't help is the one that contains benzocaine. All that does

is bring temporary pain relief. Just read the list of active

ingredients and get the one with benzyl alcohol. I think that

version is just " zilactin " where the others are something

like " zilactin-b " or some such thing. I get it from Walgreens in the

same section that has lip balm, right next to all the pain relievers

and cold medicines.

I don't know if you're like me, but it used to be that if I bit my

lip or inside cheek hard enough to bleed, then the injured spot

would almost always develop a canker core. Now if I put the zilactin

on the same day that I bite my lip, I don't get the sores. I think

of it as neosporin/polysporin for a cut. When applying, I first dry

the spot with a tissue so the medication sticks properly.

Good luck and let me know if it helps.
