Guest guest
I went this morning to my PCP and we spent over half an hour talking about my list of " symptoms " . I had finally written them down because I was starting to feel insane, or like a serious hypochondriac, at least. I had also written down my supplementation regime so he would be able to see what I'm doing there. Dr. Sandstrom said that my B-12/iron situation could still be all messed up (great) :-( or it could be my thyroid or a few other things (though he doubted that it was going to be something strange). He sent me to the lab to get a TON of blood work done; she took TEN tubes of blood and there were definitely some odd-ball tests in there because they had to call the external lab that does their specialized stuff twice and look things up in three different books to figure out which tubes to use and how to prepare the specimens. Some of these tests are not on the recommended list that I've seen in the Graduate files area. I'm feeling really frustrated. I know that I'm much healthier now than I was pre-op, but I am tired of not feeling like superwoman like I did at like 7 or 8 months post-op. Does anyone have any other ideas for me? Here's those lists: " Issues " * Hair is very thin/falling out (five people including my hair stylist and massage therapist have remarked on this in the past month) * Hands/feet tingling even when not feeling cold, sometimes even after hot shower; sometimes they go numb even when I haven't been leaning on them " funny " * Have been very dizzy once or twice a week for the past month. Have had severe vertigo twice while driving, requiring me to pull over until it passes. * Severe foot cramps maybe once or twice a week; have been taking 5 mg of valium left over from previous prescription which seems to really help (vitamin deficiency?); it had been prescribed for me to prevent muscle cramping after the abdominoplasty which is what made me think of taking it for my foot cramps. I have almost no more Valium so I need to find another solution to this problem. * Low energy * Asthma seems worse * Gums hurt and bleed easily; my dentist can't find a dental cause when I saw him last week * Extremely dry skin and lips despite aggressive moisturizing treatment * I am going to consult with Dr. Gilbert soon about the second cornea transplant but I don't feel well enough right now for surgery. I feel weak and run-down, and that worries me. I had so much energy six months ago! My night vision is getting much worse though so I really do need to consider this surgery for the second eye quite soon. Supplements/Habits * 1890 mg of calcium citrate (3 630 mg doses) with magnesium and Vitamin D * 2 Centrum chewable multivitamins for adults * 2 sublingual Vitamin B-12 tablets (32,000% RDA) * Should I be taking iron? Niferex is recommended by Dr. Weber for post-ops who need iron supps. * 90 grams a day of predigested whey protein * 9 grams a day of fiber supplement (sugar-free Fiber Choice tablets) * ~1100 calories a day * 2-3 liters of water a day * 30-60 minutes of exercise at least 4 times a week Blood tests Dr. Sandstrom ordered & the codes he used * Comprehensive metabolic profile (sodium, potassium, chloride, glucose, BUN, creatinine, calcium, total protein, albumin, total bilirubin, alkaline phosphatase, aspartate amino transferase) * Lipid profile (cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglycerides, chol/HDL ratio) * Glycohemoglobin (DCCT) * ALT (SPGT) * Amylase * GGT * LDH * Phosphorus - inorganic * Uric acid * CBC (hemogram/diff) * B-12 and folate * Iron, TIBC, and % Sat * Ferritin * Vitamin A & D (25-hydroxy) * Thyroid panel (T3 Uptake, Free T4, Free T1, TSH, T7) * Zinc * Magnesium * Serum intact PTH Diagnosis codes: 579.3 post-surgical nonabsorption 579.8 other specified intestinal malabsorption 269.2 hypovitaminosis 244.9 hypothyroidism 281.0 pernicious anemia 266.2 other B-complex deficiencies Ziobro Founder, Evergreen Morbid Obesity Surgery Support (EMOSS) As featured in the Seattle Times, http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/134644382_obese02m.html http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/134644627_obeserisks03m0.html http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/healthscience/134645199_obesescience04m0.h\ tml Open RNY 09/17/01 Dr. Weber Start: 310 pounds, BMI 54.9, size 32 jeans Goal: 160 pounds, BMI 27.5, size 10 jeans Now: 126 pounds, BMI 21.6, size 4 jeans http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/profile.phtml?N=M987208445 My AMOS profile with photos " I have a very modulated way of dealing with my anger.
