Guest guest
It was 6 weeks until I was allowed to chew again (and OMG the feeling of chewing after not being allowed to for so long is incredible). In the meantime, however, I was able to eat a lot of things just by mashing food against the roof of my mouth with my tongue. > > Hi all...I am 3 weeks post op lower jaw surgery today. Guest guest
Of course, but unfortunately six weeks is a pretty standard time frame to really start chewing. But, you're already half way there and the most painful part of your recovery is behind. I got pretty tired of throwing everything in the blender, but believe me I threw anything in that thing that could be ground up.... that included pork chops, vegetables, mashed potatoes and gravy, etc. It looked awful, tasted sort of OK, but unlike most orthognathic patients I gained ten pounds during my recovery that I later had to get rid of. Hang in there, six weeks is just a small blip on the big picture of life. > > Hi all...I am 3 weeks post op lower jaw surgery today. Guest guest
Hello, I had lower jaw surgery 10/14/04 which makes me 8 weeks post op.....I believe. Anyway, I didn't get the Ok to start chewing till I was 6 weeks out (which seems to be the " norm " ) Now things feel a bit weird to chew....partly because of the numbness and partly because of the new position of my teeth..........Listen carefully to your surgeon because he is the #1 person who knows what it takes to heal the bone. I remember soon after my surgery I was worried about the way I was sleeping and pressure from laying on either side of my jaw but my OS assured me that the only thing that would mess up what he had done was if I bit into a Big Mac and chewed. Basically, (if you had a surgery similar to mine) where you are at right now the only support your lower jaw has is the plates they put in to keep your jaw together and they can't support the pressure of eating. So if you were to bite into something it would most likely ruin what the OS had done. When you are in Las Vegas try to eat at places that have soft foods. I found that cheese enchiladas were easy to eat. Cut whatever soft food you want to eat in small.....small.......small pieces, don't chew it just enjoy the flavor and swallow. Hope this helps on your vacation. Believe me I have been where you are at right now and I understand your frustration but it gets better. Good luck!!!!!!! Carol " Ya, like Id tell ya that!
