Guest guest
I love buffet eating, not because of the quantities, but because I love the variety. I am much happier with a spoonful of 5 different things rather than a plateful of one. Admittedly, with my DS I can eat more than the average RNY patient, but I just pick out my favorites - like I literally pick the chicken out of the Thai chicken salad. My plate looks pretty weird, I guess. Bits of chicken, bleu cheese crumbles, pepperocinis, two spoons of clam chowder in a cup, a chicken leg. My favorite buffets are the Asian ones, where I can get sushi, and crab legs, or mussels. Yum. Kate

Guest guest
Well I haven't replied to anything in a while, ya know how it goes.... I read some, delete many and reply to very few.... I have to reply to buffet or barfett........... I eat at buffett's often. I think it's a great way to control protion size. I eat at a place called 's. I get the kids buffet....($4.20). I also do a chinese buffet.... The only problems I've found is that many time's if I eat something with anything over a few grams of carbs, any type, my blood sugar bottoms out about an hour after eating, otherwise buffets are great. Guest guest
" I also do a chinese buffet..... and if I eat anything with over a few grams of carbs..... Randy: The carb thing is my problem at the buffets too. Just not a big fan of them anymore. (carbs and buffets) Some places let me get the kids deal and some won't all depends where I go. Went to a Chinese one about a month ago with my brother and our kids and was sick as a dog when I got home. Too much fried stuff in sweet sauces, etc. Tested the waters and lost miserably on that one. Was not in the mood to sit there and peel shrimp and eat them. Too much work. Also, personally, I'm spoiled, I like to be served. Regina

Guest guest
I agree, I love buffets. Like Regina, I usually go for the expensive stuff..crab legs, shrinp, etc., so I always feel I get my money's worth. There's a big catering hall near me that has an awesome Sunday brunch. It's pricey, but they have fabulous stuff, even caviar, and I'm happy as long as I can have my lox, white fish, maybe some beef tenderloin, and can't forget the champagne. ) in NJ ******************* > > I eat at buffett's often. Guest guest
That's funny, I do the same thing. I'll sit there and pick exactly what I like out of each pan. We went to a Chinese buffet tonight and I picked the chicken out of the chicken & broccoli, but the broccoli out of the beef & broccoli (it was cooked more). I took a small bowl of hot & sour soup, making sure to get mostly tofu and none of those veggies that are the consistency of crunchy twine. I moved the spare ribs around until I found one that was exactly how I like it. I really annoy people at those places. lol. I love buffets though because, like you, I'd rather be able to have a bunch of different things rather than a whole plate of one thing. I'm not one of those people who can order an appetizer and be emotionally satisfied. I love a variety at a meal. ------------------------------------------------ Terry Mayers 5DollarHosting.comR http://www.5dollarhosting.com (877)-838-HOST / .... because it shouldn't cost a fortune to make a fortune! Guest guest
The only part of this buffet discussion I have a minor problem with, is the picking at food while in line. I too eat the part of meals that I like, but I take it to my table to sort it out. Not only do I feel more courteous to my fellow diners waiting behind me, but I know when I see people tossing parts aside, I find it very unappetizing. Of course, Just My 2 cents. Guest guest
Terry; Right on! With my stomach capacity diminished, I don't want to eat anything that's not just exactly what I want either. I pick through tomatoes at salad bars, etc, choose exactly the piece of fish or whatever I want at the deli. Virtually every night I don't eat out, I get take-out from one of several grocery stores with nice prepared food sections. It's so hard to stand there at 6', 199 and say I want only " half " of a piece of salmon, or just one cup of some vegetable. It still happens at restaurants, too. I feel like I need to order more than I want to make the waiter happy. Oh, well, another NY's resolution or something. in Austin RNY April 1998 RE: Buffet or Barfett? > That's funny, I do the same thing. Guest guest
Hey I do that also, almost let the teenager at Hardees talk me into getting two of those little Slammers, when I knew I could only eat one, finally I just said, " Listen, I've had weight loss surgery and can only eat a very little bit. " That brought all kindsa questions from him, thank God cause he was really a surgery canidate. I also have to fight the waitress off at s because she keeps on with the big fat yeast rolls and trying to understand why I'm not drinkin' with my meals. Once I even get a drink just so she'd leave me alone about it. I'm 6'4 " and 185-198 (accordin to the day and time of day) and people just expect me to eat more. I accept it and most time's just ignore it. Randy RE: Buffet or Barfett? > > > > That's funny, I do the same thing. Guest guest
It was starving children in China that I kept hearing about. I offered to box up my dinner and send it to them. Guest guest
I understand what you're saying Fay, but as a member of the " clean your plate " club, I find it too hard not to eat everything in front of me, so I take only what I want to eat. I like the broccoli from the beef & broccoli better, so that's what I take. I also don't take that long to pick out what I want, maybe a few seconds more than I normally would. ------------------------------------------------ Terry Mayers 5DollarHosting.comR http://www.5dollarhosting.com (877)-838-HOST / .... because it shouldn't cost a fortune to make a fortune! Guest guest
I think us buffet-pickers actually move the line along much faster because we skip so many of the items. I usually end up impatiently waiting for the heaping plate club to finish piling it on so I can get a little bit of this or that. in NJ
