Guest guest
Okay, don't laugh too much. I eat lying down on my left side sometimes. When I do this, I find that I can eat a lot more before I feel full. Is there anyone else out there that has this experience? I have been told that not many people actually eat lying on their side. I'll have you know that I can eat and drink and read like that. I can't ever remember not doing it. BarbaraJean

Guest guest
Much like my answer to the " why dont you eat sugar free chocolate " - food is an addiction for me. I don't think I've personally ever tried to eat while lying down, but I can imagine thinking that if I could eat more of the foods I enjoy that way that it might seem like a good idea. Addictions are not concerned with making sense or doing what's right. I am truly happy for the people who have a normal relationship with food. I don't happen to be one of them. Guest guest
> Okay, don't laugh too much. I eat lying down on my left side sometimes. When I do this, I find that I can eat a lot more before I feel full. Is there anyone else out there that has this experience? I don't ever eat lying down, but if I am over-full and in pain, and it won't come back up, I will lie on my left side to get my pouch to empty -- mine drains in that direction (but I don't know how common this is). This is my clue that I shouldn't have eaten that much in the first place, but I don't always listen to the clues like I should. Seems to me, though, that eating this way might be defeating the purpose of the pouch, as you might be emptying it continuously rather than keeping it full as was originally intended. I've had to work very hard to break the habit of eating before bed, so there's no eating lying down, or even in bed sitting up, in my world these days. It's a tough one for me. For a while I was using dumping as a sleeping pill -- go to bed, eat chocolate, dump and fall asleep. That was during my big gain period, when I wasn't getting any sleep because I was under tremendous stress. I was also stress-nibbling all day long. All in all, eating in a reclined position is not something I would recommend. ~~ Lyn G

Guest guest
It's not that I want to eat more. It's just something I have noticed. I have mentioned it to my surgeon and some of his staff, and they have laughed at me. I guess I was just wondering if maybe I'm imagining it. Also, I have been at goal weight for almost a year. In fact, for several months I had to struggle to keep from losing too much. It seems as though that is slowly coming to an end. I guess I'm almost up to the two-year wall. Eating in bed and at night are really the only " bad " things I do. However, I have just realized in the last month or so that I am going to have to be much more careful about everything. My weight is starting to creep up and down. I want to get more control over it. Thanks for your post. I didn't mean to brag about how much I could eat. Guest guest
I've never even seen a thin person who didn't occasionally make bad food choices, binge on a favorite food, or try to outeat emotional distress. The difference is, they don't WEAR the evidence, like we do. Thanks, Vitalady, Inc. Guest guest
According to my surgeon who appeared at our support group, thin people analyze what they are eating, compute calories more then we think and compensate for a bad day by dieting the next. Thin people are not necessarily born into thinness as much as we think. If we are going to be thin and live the thin life we have to think...think...think about choices and act proactively to offset the bad day with a good day. Just like thin people do. Don't flame me... these were HIS words...go get him!! lol (of course my surgeon is very thin and handsome...oh...did I mention a man? T Yep, I so totally agree. My granddad was one of those. He could eat a half a gallon of ice cream at night and go to bed without ever gaining an ounce. My grandmother and I would think of ice cream and gain 10 lbs. (Actually, I think we ate everything else in an attempt to avoid the ice cream but that's a different story.) My granddad finally decide after his quadruple bypass that maybe that half a gallon of ice cream before bed wasn't such a good idea. Lori Owen - Denton, Texas CHF 4/14/01 479 lbs.
