Yes, the deeper filters do usually hurt less. This is because the

light is focussed deeper in the skin where there are less nerves and

also less chance of causing damage to the skin (in extreme cases,

burning which causes blistering).

As to effectiveness, it depends on what stage in your treatment you

are at. The 590 filter seems to be more effective for reducing the

flushing response, rather than the residual redness (which is

usually caused by vessels higher in the skin which 550 / 570 are

better to treat with).
