Guest guest
Hi Carol, I had a similar issue though not as bad. since my maxilla wasn't straight the bands pulled the mandible on one side while torquing it on the other. the extra pressure on the tmj socket cartilage made my ear and jaw hurt. good thing is after enduring 9 weeks of ibuprophen i didn't have any long term tmj damage. bad news is that after 9 weeks in bands it had no effect on being able to fix my missalignment. hopefully your missalignment isn't as bad as mine was and bands will help to correct it. be sure to let the doc know and maybe he'll change your banding pattern. good luck and let us know what he sais. eric > > > > Hello, > > I need to know if there is anybody out there that may be having the same problem as me. > > First off, I am 2 weeks and 1 day post op. I had Bilateral Mandibular Sagital Split/Advancement. My lower jaw was moved forward. I have been in braces since 08/12/03 (my B-Day present to myself) Anyway, I had my procedure done 10/14/04 and was not wired or banded when I left the hospital but when I went back 1 week later for my first post op appointment my OS said that my jaw had shifted and that I needed to wear bands to correct it. I have to wear a total of 5 rubber bands. 2 on the left and 3 on the right (the right side is the side that shifted so I am double banded on the right front side) OK so here is my question.......Does anyone who is dealing with anything similar to this feel any pressure in either ear? I feel pressure in my left ear. It kinda feels like and ear infection without the ringing. I know it is due to the rubber bands because when I remove them the pressure almost goes away completely. I was advised keep them on 24/7 and are only allowed to remove them for eating > and for oral hhygiene I haven't had them off for long enough to find out if the pressure would go away completely if they were not put back on. I am going to see my OS on Monday so I am going to ask him. If it is something abnormal I am going to go to my regular DR to have her check it out. I just wanted to know if there are any members that could have experienced this to see if it common or not. Let me know. Thanks > > > >

Guest guest
carol, I am almost 3weeks post-op and noticed the same thing. Like my ears needed to be popped but I couldn't pop them. It was annoying. I noticed it when I was wearing my bands 24x7. Then into the second week my os said I only had to wear bands at night. The ear popping grealtly imporved. I only notice every now and then. My thing now is it hurts in my left temple when I swallow. My os said it's from the muscles spasming and gave me muscle relaxers which are helping. I am just waiting for everything to slowly get back to normal. It's a slow process, but worth the wait. > > > > Hello, > > I need to know if there is anybody out there that may be having the same problem as me. > > First off, I am 2 weeks and 1 day post op. Guest guest
I had some pain in one of my ears about 2 weeks after I had jaw surgery this summer. (upper, lower and genio). My doctor basically told me to take some pain meds and get over it. It took a few days to get over the pain, but after that it was more of what you are describing - annoying pressure. Hope this helps, Luke P.S. Sorry about the last post, I clicked send by accident > > > > > > > > Hello, > > > > I need to know if there is anybody out there that may be > having the same problem as me. > > > > First off, I am 2 weeks and 1 day post op. Guest guest
Hello Everyone, Thanks for the replies!!!!! It is comforting to know that you are not the only one going through certain " problems " . It is such a major thing for your body to go through that the surgeons cannot possibly tell you everything that you may or may not experience while recovering. Anyway, I went to the OS today and he said the bands are most likely " torquing " my new " hardware " on the left side of my jaw and it seems to be too much pressure and hence is why I was sooooooo uncomfortable. My WONDERFUL surgeon has changed my band pattern and I have already felt an improvement. The ultimate test will be to see if the ache comes back early in the morning (one of the two worst times of day.......the other is nighttime) I go to see my ortho tomorrow for the first time since my surgery........I am kinda uneasy........my ortho is, well lack of a better word, anal. I had to go out of town to an OS that is a provider for my insurance but my ortho wanted me to go to the OS he trusts in town who is not a provider. He told me " I am a good ortho and I am worried that I may have to fix someone else's mistake if you go to someone I don't know " . I can't argue with him because the reason I went to him was because he IS the best in town and the OS that he trusts IS the best in town as well. My ortho worked with me though he contacted the OS he trusted and asked if he had heard anything about him. Fortunately, he didn't hear anything bad. Anyway, is there anybody out there that went to the ortho after surgery and the ortho wasn't 100% happy with the job and was the ortho able to fix it w/o needing more surgery?
