I lift heavy weights at a gym ,I definitely get a good flare

everytime I lift. But when I look around the gym there are many red

faces so it doesnt concern me so much.

How many people here lift weights,do aerobics,or excercise in a

public facility, gym, dance classs or whatever ? How does it affect

your rosacea? Does it make you more self concious making your workout

tougher? Has rosacea caused you to stop excercising? How do you cope?

First, I found a gym that was well ventilated. Then, I bring a

bottle of ice water and take frequent sips as I work out. When I

feel myself getting hot in the face, I take a short break and drink

more ice water.

I do step aerobics 3-4 times a week, and always wind up with a beet-red face,

which takes an hour or more to subside afterward. I don't do the push-ups the

rest of the class does after the aerobics, because that makes the redness and

heat much worse; I sometimes bring an ice-pack with me and put it on my face

immediately after class. Other than that, I've decided to just get red and not

worry about it. This does not seem to aggravate my rosacea at all. That is, a

few hours after the red face my skin is back to normal - normal for itself,

anyway.

I have no idea whether this is contributing to any long-term skin damage (in

fact, I'd love to hear others' opinions on this) but this is the exercise I

love, it makes me feel good all over, and I just can't see giving it up. I

suppose if I found out this was damaging my skin permanently, then I'd have to

consider another less vigorous form of exercise.

I drink lots of cold water too and it really helps. Also I frequently

wet a towel with the cold water and rinse my face while I'm working out.

This also really helps cool my face down. (I just let the water dry on

it's own)

The gym I belong to keeps a fan in the treadmill room and I always set

it up to blow right in my direction....It helps immensely. Soon I am

going to try one of those small portable fans that attach right to the

equipment so that I can have it available all the time. the gym I

belonged to before this one had big windows right in the cardio room and

that was the best arrangement I must say.
