Guest guest
hi guys... get this...feeling alright. insomnia has moved on-thank god-and the pain is mostly tollerable...but 2 things are not so perfect. I am regenerating my nerves...uncomfortable but lucky that it is happening and thankful. still lots of numbness on my face, but ok. here's the weird thing...since I got home, I noticed my shoulder hurting...now I read a LOT, so I knew about lymp drainage...and did feel some of that last week as it all settled. But I think inflammed by the reclyner sleep- I have this pinched feeling starting my neck (right) and going down through my upper arm stopping at the bottom of the muscle...then on the other side, my elblow is partically NUMB. no kidding...and it's painful, dropping things, or wincing for moving the wrong way...and when it really gets going, works it way up my neck stopping in my ear-the corner just in front of the opening-on my face, hurting my jaw too. Hmm. not so great and will see my OS tomorrow and discuss...but OUCHYYYYY! also, my right ear is not so hot. can't really hear well out of it...only sometimes when I move it around-almost like when you have water in your ear. but it's not...been too long and this I noticed about a week ago. now it's not the worst thing ever, sounds loike it has to pop almost...but it's messing with my equilibrium (sp?)and I don't want to fall or worse...yesterday I jammed my finger into a wall trying to get a plastic bad at the store...just blamo! spaz, yes but at least thta was only my finger. Anyone else have any of this or ideas? I don't go until tomorrow PM...so I welcome the help (as always). other than that....I have not had one shake and am a blending freak. Had chinese for lunch today----yummy, GOOOOOO blender and straw!!!! we're best friends for life ha! JO

Guest guest
Hi JO, I have had that pinched nerve in the neck feeling before. I went to see my massage therapist, but she told me I really needed to go see my chiropractor as it was something in the middle back that was the problem. Anyway, pain can be referred from different places in the body, it could be the neck causing pain in the mid or lower back or vice versa. These are a couple of options to check out, either massage therapy or chiropractor. If you're only 2 weeks post-op, you need to go carefully with either, though. My massage therapist would not see me for 6 weeks, and recommended I wait 8-10 weeks before going to see the chiropractor. I suppose you could let them know that you're not fully healed yet (bones take 6-8 weeks) and see if there's something gentle they could do to help. Hope that helps, > hi guys... > get this...feeling alright. insomnia has moved on-thank god-and the > pain is mostly tollerable...but 2 things are not so perfect. > > I am regenerating my nerves...uncomfortable but lucky that it is > happening and thankful. still lots of numbness on my face, but ok. > here's the weird thing...since I got home, I noticed my shoulder > hurting...now I read a LOT, so I knew about lymp drainage...and did > feel some of that last week as it all settled. Guest guest
Only challenge there is that Vytra -this plan anyway - doesn't offer ANY chiro or alternative med...like accupuncture and having been to one many times in the past know it's a 2-3 X a wk committment and I definitely can not afford to see one at their out of pocket rates...I am very concerned though-this is a doozey. I will let you know what the OS has to say. maybe I will call my GP when I am hopefully more open to talk after the os apt. any thoughts on the ear...I know you're read just about " it all " ...thanks susan. Guest guest
Yup, alternative treatments aren't cheap. I did cranial massage and now regular massage for 3 years plus now, at 3 week intervals now down to once a month. Been having chiro treatment for 2 years, but I'm down to once a week now on his " wellness program " , can go up to 2x a week for only $50 a month (CAD $). Luckily I was able to claim up to about $500 per practitioner on my health plan (changed to my husband's plan this year, not covered), and zap any balance to my health care spending account. Could you try some gentle self-massage of the muscles around the neck and down the arms? I do that, particularly at the base of the skull where the spine meets it. If you find a painful knot, just apply some gentle pressure and then back off slowly. These are techniques I have learned from my massage therapist, areas that she works on each time I see her. I also do some arm stretches that are particularly effective on the nerve that runs from the neck all the way down the arm to the wrists (I was taught this when I first saw my massage therapist 3 years ago - she said I was headed for carpal tunnel surgery within a year if I hadn't seen her). I often have pain if I work at the computer too long (work all day then play on the computer at night). If you want to try them, you can stand next to the wall at a corner, put your arm out at 90 degrees and hang onto the corner (palm forward), slightly leaning a bit forward to stretch. Hold for at least 20 seconds (that's when the reflex muscles release - it's a general rule of thumb for all stretches), then GENTLY stretch a wee bit more. Then hold the arm as high as you can, again holding onto the corner of the wall, hold at least 20 seconds as before. Then hold the corner of the wall low, sort of behind you to the side, hold at least 20 seconds as before. Repeat with the other arm. I do anywhere from 30 seconds per stretch to a minute, depending on how bad my arms are. At my massage sessions, my therapist actually pulls on my arms (like pulling taffy) - it really hurts when she does, but it helps a lot. My muscles are so tight at times I actually have spasms when she's holding them. These exercises are things I have to do quite regularly. I don't know about the ear. Others here have said that it goes away, that it's due to the swelling. I didn't experience it myself. If it gets worse, do see your general physician, ok? Hope that helps, > > > hi guys... > > > get this...feeling alright. insomnia has moved on-thank god-and > the > > > pain is mostly tollerable...but 2 things are not so perfect. > > > > > > I am regenerating my nerves...uncomfortable but lucky that it is > > > happening and thankful. still lots of numbness on my face, but > ok. > > > here's the weird thing...since I got home, I noticed my shoulder > > > hurting...now I read a LOT, so I knew about lymp drainage...and > did > > > feel some of that last week as it all settled. Guest guest
Thanks.,..I will try that arm stretching right now...anything to possibly help, even a little...today I woke up and it was going down into my hand--ridiculous! but real. As to the ear....maybe it is swelling related bec last nt I felt half deaf--and I am so into sounds-I know that sounds hokey, but music and talking are such a big part of my world and always have been, even the sounds of nature, and it was very bumming and irking me last nt...today it's there still but not as muted....makes me very happy indeed. I also realized I didn't take part II of my allegra, maybe tht helped some today too...oh and it hurts a wee-bit. so swelling might just be the ticket--I go today at 5p to the OS....let you know more post apt. thanks susan! > > > > hi guys... > > > > get this...feeling alright. insomnia has moved on-thank god- and > > the > > > > pain is mostly tollerable...but 2 things are not so perfect. > > > > > > > > I am regenerating my nerves...uncomfortable but lucky that it > is > > > > happening and thankful. still lots of numbness on my face, but > > ok. > > > > here's the weird thing...since I got home, I noticed my > shoulder > > > > hurting...now I read a LOT, so I knew about lymp drainage...and > > did > > > > feel some of that last week as it all settled.
