Guest guest
Fred, I've never been through anything like what you're going through, so all I have to offer is my sympathy. That sucks! I was in New York this summer for the first time in my life and while riding in a cab, I thought, " How do people stay safe without seatbelts in this crazy traffic?! " I guess they don't always, huh? I also, while in an NYC crosswalk, narrowly avoided getting hit by an SUV that ran a red light. Luckily I saw that the guy wasn't paying attention. Hang in there, Luna > Hi-- I live in New York and six weeks ago got into an accident while > riding in a taxi. I had two surgeries so far just to repair my jaw > and upper but life still sucks. Guest guest
My god fred, I have thought for years rther be in a subaway....those cab drvrs are crazy.......was it a medallion that you can sue? HOPE SO FOR YOUR SAKE..sorry hit caps... I feel for you...its' hard going through any of this andyou didn't choose to...I had an accident in college and brk my jaw in 2 places lower, broke several teeth on the left side, bit through my toughe on the rt side and ripped open my chin...it was a fall....all alone and lame, but painful and unreal. all I can say is try and come to terms and accept the situation as quickly and as best you can, sounds crazy I know but you;re here now, yes very unfortunately, but you will have less pain if you're not always feeling tense in the face...I was so pised and upset, being yanked out of school, risking another term, having pain while my friends were out having tons of fun...I wqas miserable, until I decided, know what this does suck, but here I am and I am going to live damn it. " I get knocked down but I get up again , ain't ever gonna keep me down " cheesey for sure, but true hang in tehe and let us know how you're doing...we're all here for you! Guest guest
Ohhhh, OWWWWW! You have so much bigger troubles than most of us here do, and I'm so sorry. Those accidental breaks, I think, are way tougher than the calculated cuts our docs design. Titanium plates, all by themselves, aren't bad. Tooth loss is. Are you confident in the docs who put you back together? I hope so! They really can work miracles, but it's sooo hard when this stuff happens in a freaky way. How can we help you? The zippies (ZipNSqueeze) may make you more comfy in all this. Are you wired shut? I adored the jaw wraps, didn't need the bags, but I wasn't wired, or tightly closed, shut. Tell us more of what exactly is troubling you, and perhaps someone will know how to help... That folks don't see what's going on isn't necessarily a bad thing. Lots of people who have the surgery want to keep it a secret. I didn't, and I honestly don't think it matters what others know, except for those who may be running your life, as in bosses, those who authorise sick time, etc. Cammie > Hi-- I live in New York and six weeks ago got into an accident while > riding in a taxi. Guest guest
I don't know I think its all putting it in perspective, from my observation of several sites and groups on this particular surgery people fail to do that and its at times laughable. I would be upset if I was in your position because it was all unplanned. For me I have been deal with this since I was 12--thats nearing 10 years now! First I went to a bad ortoho--twice--then the one I am with now and on thursday I will have upper and probably lower jaw surgery as well as the extraction of tooth number ten. (thanks to the first two treatments I have lost a lot of root) Thus far I have had two teeth impants, wisdom teeth, baby teeth extracted-- at the site of the impants, a um graft and upper and lower Fernectumy. when all is is said and done I wil have all of that plus the upper and probably lower jaw sugery and the extraction of my three front teeth all within this year then three more implants and a ridge for my front two teeth. I am 21 now and this is not the worst thing I have had to deal with and I am sure there will be worse to deal with. For some people maybe this is the worst thing they have gone through so they arn't strong and thats why the devote all their time and energy to this and make into a bigger thing then it needs to be. I don't choose to get upset about it. mind over matter. I have traveled and lived in Ghana Thailand and Paraguay all within the past four year. I consider myself extremely lucky to be able to have not only the medical technology for all of this to take place, but also the finacial scources and emotional maturity to deal with it and to be able to afford the best care available to me. I have a dental team of the best of the best in this area. so what is there to complain about? as far as the screws and what not--you don't notice them the majority of the time, I don't feel my implants anymore then I feel m natrual teeth so thats nothing to worry about. as far as numbness, I had that on my chin after one of the implant surgeries and it went away within a year. as far as food---hell your lucky if you can have food, think of all the people who are starving on this world, who are we to complain about having to eat a restricted diet? for me those starving people are a reality not just something I see on the news. as far as pain---well yeah its some pain and discomfort and inconvience for a while. but your ALIVE! and when you are 98 years old this won't be something you will look back on. well hopefully not, for some people they seem to let this take over their whole life but thats their choice. and as far a year left--well I have been doing this for ten years and have 2-3 years left so 1 year and I am stillalive and well so 1 year isn't that much time. and as far as people not knowing about the damage--I can not tell you how many times people have just asked why I don't get dentures? To which I explain all about Jaw position and it doesn't matter how straight your teeth look there is much much more to the issue. and as far as not knowing if you will be the same--well thats your choice mentally speaking, if you mean in terms of how you look or how you smile, well thats a little bit more out of your control. There are people who are born with severe birth deffects that can not be fixed with surgery so again its all in persepctive. I have a friend who dissapered in Ecuador--he is presumed to be dead-- at the age of 21, for me I have seen that life can end and be much more tragic then having to have a couple oral surgeries and that being alive at this point in life is the greatest gift one can ask for and yeah life does get sukcy at times but you know what you wake up the next day and you along have the power to make it a tiney bit better and soon you are through the trial and life moves on. Anyway thats just my whole perspective on it baiscally I think if you think postive and turn your thoughts around to realize how lucky you are to have this possiability of surgery available to you and to realize you are alive and not dead to relaize this is nor Aids or Cancer or brain surgery or heart surgery or liver transplant or all of those life threatning truley scary things, you can start to turn your feelings around alot. Basically its all in how you look at it and what you want to make of it, as is with any sitution. Its life and you have to take the bad with the good and move on. Anyway so just have Faith that this will be over in a realtivly short time frame and that you can put it into persepctive and you can deal with it maturaly and be strong and you will be just fine. What doesn't kill us makes us stronger. so hang in there and good luck healing and what not. liz > > > Hi-- I live in New York and six weeks ago got into an accident while > > riding in a taxi. Guest guest
Hi Fred, Those darn cabbies! An acquaintance of mine was in a taxi accident in NY last year-ended up with facial breaks, broken arm and shoulder break! Makes one want to never get into a cab again! I had upper and lower jaw surgery almost 3 weeks ago. Currently I have 4 titanium plates and 27 screws holding my head together-My friend's are referring to me Humpty Dumpty, but I got put back together! :0)I know the post-op can be really difficult and frustrating and some days can be depressing, but I find each day a little better-I realize you are going through much more than me, but hang in there and keep looking ahead-the surgeeries will be done and you on the road to recovery. With all the things dentists can do nowadays, you can have those teeth replaced once you've healed, I'm sure-My best friend got a front tooth knocked out in an accident and you can't even tell she had a falsie put in there. As long as you have good dentistry professionals, you'll be fine. (Oh, btw, I have a partial smile too! ) You take care!
