Guest guest
Maddie, my name is and I live in San . I was told by my OD to obtain Kaiser insurance because they perform so many of these per year. He has had the smoothest experiences with Kaiser-Oakland. I have a Class III and am in the pre-braces stage (Pics on group website). Keep in touch and let me know how things work out. You are where I will be so info on your experience with Kaiser would be helpful. Orthognathic Surgery Support ] Question for the Oakland Kaiser Folks Hello, Did your orthodontist work closely with Drs. O' and Poor? I'm a little nervous because other than the initial visit to Dr. O' to get the o.k. for surgery, I haven't seen her and will only be seen at my pre-op appointment the day before surgery! I'm almost positive my ortho hasn't discussed my case with her. I guess I'm just worried that she's going to take one look at me and say, " No, you're not ready. " Listening to others here it seems like there's a real back-and-forth between the orthodontist and oral surgeon. But that doesn't seem to be the case with Kaiser. Interested to know other Oakland Kaiser (or any Kaiser) experiences. Thanks! Maddie

Guest guest
For what it's worth (although I have no first-hand experience, as I'm in Alabama, not California): It would seem that Kaiser in Oakland, and these two docs in particular, do so many of these procedures that they have everything figured out to a T, from the classes preparatory to the surgery, to surgeons being so much on the same track that they can pretty well fill in for each other at appointments and so forth (not for the surgery, though, far as I know). Reports from their patients have been good, best I remember. I don't know how I'd have felt about having to go to a class -- I think I prefer the one-on-one conversations -- but patients who have done so have reported that the class taught them a great deal and offered answers for many of their questions. Sounds as though you're both in good hands, to me. Cammie > Maddie, my name is and I live in San . Guest guest
I had my surgery on August 17th and I have to say that my Ortho, Dr of Sacramento, has an excellent rapport with Dr Poor. Dr's Poor and O' are some of the best if not the best in their field. I would also rate my Ortho Dr as one of the best if not the best in his field as well. Dr's Poor and O' have worked together for over 15 years and perform 350-500 jaw surgeries per year. Kaiser has a mandatory pre-surgery class that all surgical candidates for this operation must attend. These people have it down at Kaiser Oakland and are are very well organized. If you have upper and lower done you will be in the hospital overnight. If you have family/friends that need a hotel in the area there are shuttles to/from some of the area hotels and if you ask the nursing staff at the Dr's office they will have that information for you. I would recommend the Sheraton Four Points in Emeryville. They offer a AAA discount. My surgery went very well, I swelled a bit and had the normal bruising. I was wired for 9 days and had bands for another 3-4 weeks. At this point I am about 2 and a half months post op and can eat most anything. I have most of the feeling back in my face but am still numb on part of my lower lip chin. They say it takes longer to come back the older you are. > > Hello, > > Did your orthodontist work closely with Drs. O' and Poor?
