Guest guest
I agree .....sometimes the words and attitudes of others can really sting.....and sometimes I think people are really quick to come out with " clichés " without really thinking of how accusational or judgmental they may sound to others!! The attitude of " it you wanted it bad enough " sent a chill up my spine too........it reminded me too much of my Grandma and Dad in my years prior to WLS......they kept saying that if I wanted it bad enough I would.............I always think..........well, maybe.....but at what cost!! Guest guest
Yes Vicki......but as I am sure you know support comes in all sizes and shapes. Different kind are needed at different times. Just like people come in different sizes and different shapes....some like our Dear sweet Momma Ceep wouldn't " offend " even if she had to.....her words might be harsh, and they might occasionally not be what that person wanted to hear. BUT they are always going to be given in " respect " and love. They are always going to be given from the standpoint that we are all fellow strugglers in this battle and life. NOT like she is someone superior in strength and intelligence....although from her wisdom and personality I suspect she is both!!! She bothers to " read " the intent behind a persons post.....she sees their particular need, shows them the error of there ways.....and NEVER with a one-up attitude, snide remarks or accusations. I am only using Momma Ceep as an example because most of tend to know her and she is a shinning example. I won't bother to name an example of the " other " personality type. The kind who couldn't be humble, nice or thoughtful if their life depended on it. I guess what I am trying to say is that, YES, it can be very hard to read someone's thoughts or emotions behind an e-mail. But I think it is to generous to say that everyone is nice and just mistaken and would never purposely " diss " someone.....I think that there are some here who are very consciously pious and curt......and proud of it!!! Just my .02 P. Re:paying for plastic surgery People, people, people.. Come on now. You know most everyone on this list is here for support and would never intentionally diss someone else. Sometimes the written word comes off more harsh than was intended...hence the proliferation of business courses in the art of writing e-mail. It's true we perceive from the center of our own beings (attitudes, experiences, etc.) but that's not necessarily where the message came from. I belong to another support group which stresses...take what you want and leave the rest. If something p.o.s you, try to see it from the other persons point of view before your fingers hit the keys. My personal opinion is that I don't mind ideas even when they differ from mine and irritate me. I am here to learn Even if I don't agree, it gives me insight to how others might feel...something I would have never even had a clue about if it hadn't been pointed out. When I complained previously about being stuck in a carbo cycle, Jac came back and LECTURED me about how we are supposed to eat. My first response was ____! Get real! You think I don't know that??? Who made you Queen of the Universe? LOL (btw, that's MY title, so don't cop it) But then I thought about it and realized that was exactly what I needed to hear. There's no cheating the system. If she would have said " poor you, I know how you feel, isn't it terrible, it's just so hard you can't blame yourself.... " I would have probably wallowed in self pity as I voraciously sucked on another tootsie pop. Now THAT'S support! Guest guest
No, your right Vicki......I too would love to live in a kinder, gentler world....I guess I am just too thinned skinned and take offense too easily. I am usually better at just " deleting " and moving on........maybe I need to give this St. 's Wort some more time Guess I should go " lurker " till it kicks in................ Re:paying for plastic surgery , You may be right. But I prefer to live in a kinder, gentler world. My attitude may be nieve, but frankly, I just have too many other things on my plate to sweat the small stuff. I like to think of this boards as my safe place. I hope I never get disappointed.
