Guest guest
My sister has the kind of retainer you are talking about. it's cemented to the back of her front 6 bottom teeth. Her braces only came off about 6 months ago, but so far she loves it. her bottom teeth have not moved in the slightest, and her uppers have started to try to move around (she has her last invisalign tray she uses for a retainer on the uppers -- she had metal braces on the lowers, interesting setup but it worked for her!) to the point that she's wearing the upper retainer full time again to get them to stabilize. One thing I've heard about them is that they only last about 10 years or so before they fall off naturally, after that you need to either have another one put on, or have a removable retainer made. She also complained a lot about it getting in the way of talking and flossing, but she's gotten used to it now. My Ortho is going to give me one like that when I come out of my braces as well. Hope this helps! ~Jen > > Anyone have one or know anything? > > Looking into it Monday, but the idea is the lower front teeth are > sorta weak in the roots...done better than we hoped actually-since we > had considered implants...but so far so good. Guest guest
yup it does...I will have retainers only at night post-braces and on top and bottom. As to talking, before surg/even before lower braces I had a mess of these teeth on the bottom. Yrs ago when first set of braces were happening, they tried to expose a lower tooth in surgery when they took out my bycuspids to allow it to be bracketed and pulled up quicker-needless to say the gum never grew back and then the jaw breaking accident I had in college allowed the scare tissue and what not to let the bottom front go wild///think zig-zag and stacked...so as to something in the way, for the first time in YEARS I can rest my tounge flat...and THAT is a treat...so a little interruption to the talk-stop-I will take it! any idea about the cosemetics? and thanks Jen, JO > > > > Anyone have one or know anything? > > > > Looking into it Monday, but the idea is the lower front teeth are > > sorta weak in the roots...done better than we hoped actually- since we > > had considered implants...but so far so good. Guest guest
I had one of those permanent lower retainers after my first go-around with braces. I hated it because flossing was such a pain. After I'm done with orthodontics this time, I'm going to ask for a removable lower retainer so I won't have to deal with that again. This is just my personal opinion--you may find that the permanent retainer works well for you. > > Anyone have one or know anything? > > Looking into it Monday, but the idea is the lower front teeth are > sorta weak in the roots...done better than we hoped actually-since we > had considered implants...but so far so good. Guest guest
Same way you floss with braces, except you thread the floss behind your teeth instead of in front. The good thing is that it attaches to your teeth in only two places instead of every tooth, so you only have to go through the threading motion once instead of every single time. > > > > > > Anyone have one or know anything? > > > > > > Looking into it Monday, but the idea is the lower front teeth are > > > sorta weak in the roots...done better than we hoped actually- > since > > we > > > had considered implants...but so far so good.
