Guest guest
, it sounds like you have what I had. when you don't have braces to hook the bands to they put screws in instead. they are primarily used during surgery to help align the bite before they put the screws in. I had bands on mine for 9 weeks post-op. if your bite is good they don't need to manipulate it with the bands. mine came out at the os office without a hitch, they just unscrew them, no shots no pain nada! eric > I am at the end of my 5th week after upper and lower jaw surgery. > Doing good so far. Guest guest
My OS said something about either being put to sleep for the metal pieces and screws to come off or having some sort of spray novicaine because it is quite uncomfortable. That's what has me worried. Did you have a splint as well? Do you know what that is like coming off? > > I am at the end of my 5th week after upper and lower jaw surgery. > > Doing good so far. Guest guest
I have metal bars that have hooks on them that line my top gums and my bottom gums. These bars are screwed into my jaw in the back and wired around my teeth in certain areas. Also, the splint is wired to these bars. He said that having the splint removed is no biggie. The wires are just cut and the splint comes out. However, when he mentioned that normally he suggest being put to sleep for the metal to come off, I got quite concerned. That and my insurance won't pay for the anesthesia for the metal bars to come off, so I wasn't sure if it was tolerable having it taken out without being put to sleep...with only having novicaine or something. I really appreciate being able to talk to you about this. Especially since you know what this is like!! :-) > > > > I am at the end of my 5th week after upper and lower jaw > > surgery. > > > > Doing good so far. Guest guest
I've heard of many people having them removed with local shots only. my doc said it's necessary cuz when they cut the wire the vibration goes all the way to the bone and can be quite unpleasant. so if you don't want general anethesia he should be able to accomodate you. best of luck/eric > > > > > I am at the end of my 5th week after upper and lower jaw > > > surgery. > > > > > Doing good so far. Guest guest
Thanks for the info!! I have 2 1/2 weeks to make a final decision, but this definately helps. How long has it been since your jaw surgery? Did you have both upper and lower? > > > > > > I am at the end of my 5th week after upper and lower jaw > > > > surgery. > > > > > > Doing good so far. Guest guest
I had both upper and lower with genioplasty 4 months ago and go in again thursday to have the upper retrimmed cuz it's not level and my bite is now open in front and on one side. eric > > > > > > > I am at the end of my 5th week after upper and lower jaw > > > > > surgery. > > > > > > > Doing good so far.
