Guest guest
Isn't Shands Clinic somewhere in Northeast Florida? I have heard good things about them, and I believe several people who used to be on the boards, but aren't so much any more, made trips there even from South Florida. It might be worth looking on a web search to see if you can find them, unless you get some more direct answers... I did not go there myself. Guest guest
Hi...Yes. I live in ville, FL and we have a Shands Hospital. THe really good Shands Trama Center is in Gainesville, Fl. which is about an hour and a half away. But the problem is finding a surgeon that works out of the good hospitals. I might end up looking for a surgeon in Gainesville because there might be a better selection down there. Or even Orlando if I get desperate, but thats a little too far for check up appointments!! And yes...I know theres tons of surgeons in ville, but a lot of them are in way NW ville and are about an hour from my house anyways as I live in south ville. Thanks for your reply though! > > THe surgeon I was planning on using is not available enough for my > > time restraints. He doesnt do them regularly anymore so i was an > > exception. Guest guest
That's the name of the clinic (flafrog) from ville went to. I couldn't remember the city. Guest guest
I don't blame you for wanting proximity, but my surgeon was at least an hour from my home, and probably more. I was quite happy to go to see him -- and actually, you probably don't need that many visits with him, although I can certainly understand the problem if you'll have to have someone take you. I'm thinking. I saw him once a year ahead of time, once before the surgery, once a week for a few weeks and then once every month or two for a couple of months. Then after six weeks, and that was that. Of course, I had no problems. I would want to be near my surgeon immediately post op, just in case anything goes awry, which sometimes it can. I can tell you about Shands that a couple of people on the board have gone there with complex problems, and I can't remember that anybody was displeased. , your memory serves you better than this OLD one serves me. I can also tell you that when one of the leading oncologists in Mobile came down with throat cancer, he wound up at Shands for treatment -- and Mobile is a lot farther away than you are from that clinic. (Nope. I don't get a commission. And I am sure there are many other fine os folks in your area, too. Ask around -- friends, dentists, ortho, other surgeons, your own general care physician, etc.) Good wishes to you. Just keep in mind that it well may be worth your while to travel a bit for excellent care. I do think you want someone who does a lot of these procedures, who has done a lot recently (keeping his or her hand in, as it were) and would advise as well that few calendars for this stuff are ever written in stone. Your teeth may take longer or shorter time -- shorter is no problem, as things can usually be stabilized to wait for plans, but longer means a greater wait. Cammie > Hi...Yes. Guest guest
Hey Cammie. That post was very helpful. I dont mind traveling to Gainesville if I have to. I want a good doctor. WE are going to start calling some surgeons and orthodontists to try to get going with this whole thing for the second time lol. I think we are going to get braces on as soon as possible once we find someone to go with so that i will have an extra 2-3 months then what they actually told me(5-6 months). I just really want it to be done in summer since i have such a busy schedule. I also just want a set enough schedule to where I will know whether to sign up for summer classes or fall semester classes in college. Well I am trying to keep myself busy to make these months pass as quickly as possible. > > Hi...Yes.
