Guest guest
Hi everyone! I'm 4 weeks post-op from upper/lower/cheek reconstruction done 9/20, and am wired shut til at least Nov 1st. As the date is approaching, I am wondering....is there anyone out there who can tell me their experience? Were you put under? Did you experience pain and swelling afterwards? Were you given any antibiotics/swelling/pain meds to take home? Were you able to eat more solid foods that day, and if so, what foods? Was brushing teeth painful that first day after you were un-wired? Sorry so many questions....but I am curious! I would also like to extend a GET WELL to everyone who is still recovering. I tell myself everyday that " this too shall pass " ! Sometimes it is easier said than done, but it IS true. I thought I would never get over the phlegm, the sore bloody nose, the annoying nose-whistling that would keep me awake, etc. Hang in there! love, Bea

Guest guest
Hello Bea, I was wired shut for 4 weeks after my surgery. I was not 'put under' at all. As for pain afterwards, it was not so much pain as it was discomfort. The muscles have weakened, and I had the feeling that my lower jaw would just fall off. It felt better to put the elastics on for support. I also took some Tylenol before I went to the appointment. I was not allowed solids right away--I was still soft foods only for another 3 weeks. Brushing---I wasn't able to open my mouth very far to start with. I used a baby toothbrush, it is much smaller and easier to get into the mouth. Hope this helps. And as everyone else has said about this all passing........it does, I am now one year post-op. Good Luck, a > > Hi everyone!
