Does anyone know if Pulminary Hypertension is common with people with

MSA? My wife just got this latest news which is not good and her

cardiologist wasn't familiar with her OPCA. Any info would be

appreciated.

Hi Dick, I wasn't really sure what you meant by " pulmonary " hypertension as

I've only ever heard of hypertension in general. So I looked it up and

found this site.

http://www.phcentral.org/medical/whatisph.html

If I understand correctly pulmonary hypertension refers to high blood

pressure specifically in the artery which feeds blood to the lungs.

Her cardiologist will need to consult with her neurologist so that each

understand the interactions of any medication she will need. The heart,

lungs and autonomic nervous system can certainly be affected by MSA/OPCA.

As well if your wife experiences any symptoms of sleep apnea her heart and

lungs can also be negatively affected. If you notice loud breathing or

snoring during sleep or episodes where she appears to stop breathing

temporarily be sure to bring this up to her doctors.

Regards,

Pam
