Guest guest
>>> Soooooo, today I had a full fledged yearly physical - including pap, mammo, all labs (and then some), and a bone density test. I was there for 4 hours. >>> places like this exist? i honestly had no idea that you could get all this done at one place on one day! when i lived in NJ it wasn't possible and it really really is not possible in rural southwest VA. what a novel idea someone has come up! it takes me 2hr. to have blood work done and thats just a 15min. drive. then it takes me 4hr. to have my mammogram done because its a 1hr. 20min. drive one way. then 3 days later you go back to see the doctor. so it takes about 8-9 hr. total and 2 half days off from work for that one. well when it comes to a gyn...... they are all scum around here and believe me I've tried many in many different towns over the years. it seems these small rural areas desperate for a doctor will do anything to get the low lifes with md after their name. at work we joke that we should redesign the mechanical room and have the hair dresser come one day a month and just cut us all, the gyn, the tax guy. most of us use the same professionals in small town america so why not? we are given one day a year off as an annual physical day but the joke is that you need like 5 days off to accomplish all those appts. sue

Guest guest
sue, I simply do not have that kind of extra time -- I often end up arguing my case (or my butt off as the case may be) but I insist that my doctor mail me orders for my blood work, mammogram, DEXA scan and any other needed test BEFORE my appointment with her so all the results on that stuff are IN and THEN she can do the rest of the woman 'hands on " physical things, have all reports in hand and ready to read plus I bring a print out of my lab history with me so I can compare side by side WHILE I'm in the office... it is often a war to get the orders FIRST, get the testing FIRST and then make them give me time to combine it all into one doctors visit *sigh* So far, I win but not without a great deal of phone calls, explaining (nicely when possible) faxing copies of what I want/need here there and yonder -- and I live in a metropolitan area so it is not an exclusive issue to the rural areas... it is a war with the MD's who don't seem to do the " logical " thing until you insist that is the ONLY way you'll do it.... My PCP has pretty much stopped arguing with me about the " order " we'll do the annual stuff in... her office staff is another story though... so inflexible and always what is most convenient for the doctor -- last recourse is always to remind them that while they may work for the doctor the doctor works for ME and it is MY PAYMENTS that PAY their salaries so... don't tell me, 'It can't be done.. " it can! (maybe some PMS thrown in here for spice... my apologies in advance if I offend anyone) hugz, ~denise )ô( https://www.paypal.com/refer/pal=5ANS6MHB8RHCQ

Guest guest
> sue, I simply do not have that kind of extra time -- no body has this kind of time whether you work or don't. it is just reality in rural amercia. there is no place to have a bone density scan done here. i have to drive 90miles one way. it is just a fact of life here. the local nurse practitioner i use will do anything i ask, i am lucky. they can do some blood work but most gets sent out and then you wait. they can't do testing or xrays, no equipment. they send you to roanoke, charlotteville or winston salem - 1.5-3hr. away. when i first moved here [and i still question why i did that] there was no store!! one small grocery like a big 7 11 and nothing else but a couple over priced main street stores. we drove 30-90 min. one way for food, clothes, etc. its just life here. thats why so many in appalachia have no medical care, no teeth and die young. sue
