I haven't heard of anyone having jaw implants before, unfortunately. Guest guest
Hi : That's easy- I can feel the head of it. Used to not be able to feel any part of it, then I could feel one side, now I can feel the entire roundness of the screw head protruding. Doesn't hurt but it's REAL close to my eye(they put the plate up high due to the bone being very thin- yikes!). But I have to admit it's been a lot of fun freaking people out with it. Guest guest
Thanks for the sympathy & the good luck wishes. I'm actually glad a screw came loose cause I wanted the implants to fill in my jaw gaps & give me a good jaw line back (they had to raise mine so high & forward that it just looks unnatural from the side to me). Now because of the loose screw the insurance company will pay for the operation & all I have to do is pay for the actual implants. So I guess there is such a thing as good bad luck. There was someone a while back that was also getting jaw implants & another who had researched it a lot. I was hoping that I'd catch some info from them. I will check the archives later. I sure hope this is worth it. The doctor says this will be a breeze compared to the other time (which wasn't too bad) but still...I HATE the thought of being knocked out. It always scares me so. > > Hi, it's been over 2 years since I had upper & lower jaw surgery. > > Now they are going in to take some hardware out due to a screw > > coming loose. Guest guest
Hi Georgia, Bad luck turned into good fortune! Good way of looking at it. Well, maybe Cammie will peek in and she'll remember who had the implants. > > > Hi, it's been over 2 years since I had upper & lower jaw > surgery. > > > Now they are going in to take some hardware out due to a screw > > > coming loose. Guest guest
georgia, funny yu should mention the screw in the eye. I also have a screw that protrudes just under my eye. i talked to the doc today and he said he will remove it when he redoes the maxilla. lucky me! > > > Hi, it's been over 2 years since I had upper & lower jaw > surgery. > > > Now they are going in to take some hardware out due to a screw > > > coming loose. YIKES. So have all the technicians at my OD office. I love those guys. i just hate it when i wash my face in the shower and can feel it. Guest guest
Yea, being able to feel it is a little freaky. But I guess I wouldn't worry if it had always been this way. The fact that it is slowly protruding more & more & that it is so close to my eye socket ( & I mean about an eighth of an inch- no joke), really bugs me. But it is alot of fun watching people gross out from it. Heh, heh! Sounds like you have had a little fun with it too. Guest guest
So you are having a redo? That sucks. How soon? So does the fact of your screw being so close to your eye kinda freak you out. I have this horrible thought that it could come out & roll into my eye socket. (I know- vivid imagination) My doc said that almost any other screw he could take out in the office but not the one near my eye. Says that is a definite hospital procedure. I get to go home that afternoon though. At least they will take care of it at the same time as something else (the jaw implants). Good luck with your " loose screw " & your redo. Guest guest
and i thought i was the only one! i didn't notice the screw until the swelling went down and i would rub my eye. then i saw on the xray how close they come to my eyes. mine actually sticks up into the eye socket. i hope when he removes it he's a little more careful this time! eric > > > > > Hi, it's been over 2 years since I had upper & lower jaw > > > surgery. > > > > > Now they are going in to take some hardware out due to a > screw > > > > > coming loose. Guest guest
Wow & I thought mine was bad being so close. Whew, that would really freak me out. I'm a little worried about them taking it out due to the fact that they said they had to put it up so high due to the bones being thin. (darn lactose intolerance!). Hope he's careful!
