Guest guest
Hey everyone, I have a class III underbite, and began treatment yesterday by getting my braces on. My ortho predicted about 24-26 months of braces and jaw surgery altogether, yikes! So far, I can handle the soreness alright, and the eating soft foods is okay too. However, one thing that is bothering me a LOT is that since getting my braces yesterday, one of my top teeth has moved forward and now is in contact with my bottom tooth every time I bite down, causing all of my other teeth to not touch, including my back teeth. I supposed this can be called an open bite? I can live with this for a while, but as my teeth straighen, I can tell it will get worse. Will I have an open bite for the next year and a half?? It's driving me crazy, I don't know if I can get used to it...Has anybody else with an underbite gone through this, and do you ever get used to it? I'm glad this group is here, it has helped so much to read about other people's experiences! Thanks,

Guest guest
Hi Mandy, Welcome to the world of braces. What you desribed is very normal. In the beginning my ortho had to make one or two teeth stick out at odd angles in order to let some other teeth " unravel. " Now as I approach surgery, my underbite is becoming more and more pronounced and my bite is worse than when I started! This is again normal, as the ortho is prepping the bite for the eventual lower jaw surgery. You will be amazed at how quickly you become accustomed to your teeth moving and being out of alignment. It freaked me out a bit at the beginning but now I don't notice at all. Maddie > Hey everyone, > > I have a class III underbite, and began treatment yesterday by > getting my braces on. Guest guest
i have the same problem as you and had my braces put on the same day as you. most of the weird new positions of my teeth was due to the expanders and went down quite dramatically within a few days......other than that..the whole reason you are having braces is to move your teeth., and so for me the more they move and the more it hurts the happier i am. The doctors are so on the case, they know exactly what they are doing.
