Guest guest
Did you have a long face to begin with? I personally would love to achieve a longer and thinner face out of this surgery as well as a correct bite. zulu1967 wrote:DO NOT DO THE SURGERY! IT'S NEVER TOO LATE TO CHANGE YOUR MIND!!!! Guest guest
I agree with Cammie on this. My case was NOT extreme. I had an underbite that most people did not notice. I was told if I was going to do the surgery to do it now before I started to have functional problems. No one can be 100% certain that I would have had problems if I did not have the surgery. I may have lived out my life with no problems at all, or I may have lost all my teeth by 40. The cosmetic benefits tipped the scale for me. I have had a VERY difficlt recovery and I am not done yet. But I have never regretted having the surgery for a moment. I also have a small amount of asymmetry. But no one but me and my Doc notice it so it does not bother me. This is an entirely personal decision and as a support group I think our role is to advise and share experiences, but NEVER to tell someone what they should or should not do. Every has a right to make their own decision without being biased unnecessarily. My two-cents. Marsha > > I can understand zulu's point, as I lean that way myself. Guest guest
Thanks Zulu and Neil, that's kind of what i want to hear as my face is rounded and that is emphasized by the weak chin. I look ok but I know a longer face would be an improvement. The fact that you say the nose looks smaller too is good too. I want to get the most out of this aesthetically as well as functionally. I want it to be worth it considering the time, money and recovery involved. Neil, are you generally happy you got it done? Zulu would you mind sending me your photos too?? I am really curious about outcomes in people similar to my situation. suzy_q_nz@... zulu1967 wrote: the bottom half of my face was rounded (probably because of a recessive lower jaw)... after 9 months in brace and signficant reduction in my overjet (from 9mm to 5mm), my face was nice and square.... after the surgery the surgery the lower part of my face got a bit thinner... so, yes my face got thinner... the ortho assistant told me that most people that have lower jaw advancement get a thinner looking face..and their nose appears to be smaller since the face is longer.... also, one cannot guess what their new face will look like after the surgery by simply moving the jaw forward... i looked very different that i thought i would.. someone from this forum also emailed me stating the same experience... it appears tha Niel also agrees... the slightest change or adjustment can make your face look different... > > > > > > > Well I thought I'd give this a try and see if > > > > I > > > > > > could get any > > > > > > advice > > > > > > > or assistance from anyone who has been down > > > > the > > > > > > road I'm about to > > > > > > > travel.
