Guest guest
Well for me my lower lip is still numb at 10 days after surgery and I probably won't get that feeling back for some time according to the OS as it's still early. My kissing right now is limited to pecks. I have a soft food diet for another two weeks and then on to more chewing. As time passes the jaw should have a fuller range of motion allowing kissing. Also because I had upper and lower my stiches meet right under the nose and so that will be a bit tender for awhile as well. > i know this is a weird question but how much after the surgery would > it take to start kissing again?? and i see u guys are saying that > there it is limited how much u can open ur mouth. do u go back to > normal a certain amount of time after the surgery?? or does ur mouth > always have limited space and movement .... > thanks

Guest guest
Keep in mind that we all heal differently, but I'm close to 3 months and still, my lower lip isn't feeling as before. Although the stiffiness in both upper and lower lips has gone for the greater part (+90%), kissing isn't as before. But very pleasurable, still As for opening, I'm probably an exception. I had a super great opening of 57mm (it's usually around 50-55mm), but still, I managed to loose only 10mm (now opening at 47mm), despite the fact that there was a big possibility of loosing more than that, given the unnatural condition my jaws were in prior to the surgery. I had my first super big hot-dog today... **whitout** squeezing it to fit in my mouth.. !! Even my best friend was doubtful I would be able to have it. I saved the honour of the Orthognatic Patients! :-) Ray

Guest guest
Not a weird question at all. Reliable reports say that kissing and other fun things are just fine, unless they exploit anybody in any way. How much, and just how, probably depends on your physical limitations. Maybe don't get too frisky, and you may find some altered sensations (depending on your numbness and swelling -- give your body a break --OOPS! Bad choice of phrase there!) Just take it easy and do whatever you and your partner enjoy. But ask your surgeon, too. There's not a question on earth that he or she has not heard many times before, and I would wager that this one is one of the more frequent. Also about being in braces, which never stopped a kiss that I've heard about.
