Paige, I wanted to take a moment out to thank you for searching out this

info. Have always known that Estrogen is stored in the fat cells, too, that as

we

lose the weight rapidly our estrogen levels are increased.... what I didn't

know is how ( exactly ) this effects us physically/emotionally.

... the assumption I suppose is that as our fat stores become depleted...the

aforementioned side effects will lesson ....??

Paige, thank you so much! I had been told about the depression, but hadn't

equated it to the estrogen. It makes sense. I didn't know it affected your

hair loss either. I'm going to print this out and keep it on hand.

Thanks!!

Hi Joan! :) I think I've found a bit of info on the estrogen!

My group leader loaned me a book pre-op that I happened to be looking

at again tonight. It's the Boasten book Weight Loss Surgery -

Understanding & Overcoming Morbid Obesity. p 145 in the post op

adjustments section:

" The Estrogen Adjustments: Estrogen is stored in the fat cells. As

you lose weight rapidly, estrogen is free-flowing. This free-flowing

estrogen can create several significant problems; hair loss,

contraceptive failure, fertility issues, depression, mood swings,

nausea and period changes. Your gynecologist or PCP should monitor

your estrogen levels. In some cases, you may need hormone therapy for

a few months while the weight loss is the most rapid. "

Estrogen running amok. What a concept!

Paige, great info. I zeroed in on the zinc. I take zinc if I have a cold

coming on, and the rest of the family does too. It's amazing that the cold

seems to dissipate. If I catch it as soon as it starts, it's over in a day

or two. I haven't had a bad cold in about 6-7 years now, and with the

Diabetes I thought I would. I'd read about it when Cold-eze came out. I

had no idea though that zinc had anything to with hair loss. I'm going to

check my vitamins to see the amount of zinc they have.
