Hi ,

best wishes on your second surgery anniversary! How fortunate we all are to

have veterans such as yourself and Cammie, who stay tuned only to help us

newcommers. What a dramatic and positive change in your after photos. It gives

me comfort knowing I have the same surgeon. Thank you for sticking with us.

Today is my two year anniversary for upper/lower/genio !

I'm celebrating much as I did last year, no food from midnight until

after the noon hour, which is when they wheeled me back up to my

private room after the surgery (it was at 8:30 am, and a 3 and a half

hour event). Then I'll have a can of Ensure for my lunch. After my

monthly massage therapy this evening, we'll go out for dinner to

celebrate. No steaks, as we both became vegetarians about a month and

a half ago. I've never felt better, and my husband has already lost

18 pounds on a much healthier diet.

For those of you new to all of this, I have posted mine and others'

surgery experiences on the geocities site at

http://www.geocities.com/orthognathicinfo/ click on PERSONAL SURGERY

EXPERIENCES on the left hand sidebar.

I had an easy and quick recovery. I did lots of things to give myself

the best possible chance at it, as you'll read on the geocities site,

but I also had a really positive attitude going into things. These

sites also helped tremendously. I remember when I first joined, back

in Feb of 2001, I was pretty scared to find out what was going to

happen to me - had I known it from my ortho or surgeon, I might have

backed down from it. It's incredibly helpful to hear others' stories,

and to meet other patients, as I've been fortunate to do, both online

and in person.

My photos are on site 2 under Fiddlesticks folder. I should

probably post an updated one, but there's not a heck of a lot of

change from the last one. That site is at

http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/orthognaticsurgerysite2 (you'll

have to become a member to view the photos, but there's lots there).

Thanks to all for your support!

Hi Cathy,

Thanks for the congrats! Actually, I still have one more visit to Dr

T - I was supposed to go in this July and he said he'd " cut me loose "

meaning that would be the last visit. Somehow I hate to go, but I

guess I better book it soon and get it over with. I do want to take a

digital photo of my post-op xrays for the record! If they turn out,

I'll post them on oss2.

Keep me posted on your progress, ok?

Thanks, Ray. I guess it's just because I've been hanging out here for

so long. I've picked up a fair bit from others' experiences.

Hi ,

I do understand your reluctance to have your " final " visit with Dr. T. Saying

goodbuy to someone who has played an important role in your life these past two

plus years would be difficult. Although I have only been to his office once

the staff were so friendly and made quite an impression on me.

I am sure I will have ooddles of question for you in the months to come, and I

am so gratefull for your experience, knowledge, and help. Thank you !

Hey , The relationship with the OS lasts about 2 years!

Amazing. I am still in the ambivilant (sp?) feeling about being a

little off center with my jaw. i now know i was off center to begin

with, but not noticeable. This is noticeable now and bothering me. i

will not see my OS for 6 weeks after last week's appt, but after

getting some photos back of myself, it's really more evident than

what i see in the mirror. i guess i can't get him to admit to what

i think may be an error. He got out a ruler and said it is off a

teeny teeny tad, but when i look at things, my midline if off, my

nose is off, my chin is off.... OK, sorry for the rant. I was just

surprised you were still seeing OS at 2 yr!

just curious...

Hi ,

Well, my surgeon told me to come see him again in a year (at my 11

month post-op visit), so that's why. But I haven't seen him since

that visit!

I'm just wondering which jaw is off center? It's possible for the

nose and the lower to be inline, but the upper to be off center.

Anyway, I think it really depends on the amount (I think most

surgeons have a minimal amount they will move the jaws since there is

always possibility of small relapse). And don't forget that you will

always be your worst critic - most people who don't know about these

surgeries would probably not see what you see unless you point it

out. The surgeon probably does see it but perhaps doesn't consider it

enough to warrant correction.

It's hard to give up on perfection, I know, everyone wants it, but as

my husband always says, imperfection is also character (that's

usually the response when I nag about his messy piles of stuff).

I agree with your comment about surgeon probably knows it but that

is doesn't warrant correction. I am stupified by recent pictures

and find myself looking constantly in the mirror. i do think that

most people would not notice unless they also studied my face but if

they saw the pictures they would for SURE see it. i will tell you

this. On a visit to my chiropractor, while lying on my back, she was

up behind my head and said " Your chin is crooked " . Immediately

noticed. If i tilt my head down and only raise my eyes to look in

mirror, it's more noticeable. For me right now, i just want to know

why it happened and how it happened. i think i can live with it, i

don't want to, (yes, more toward the perfection side!), but i

want/need to understand what went on. Is the very obvious swelling

on one side for days after the surgeyr an indication? is the fact

that one side of my bite was 1/2 inch not closed where as the other

was almost closed? i sort of just want to know. Venting again, i

know. Thanks for listening. Perhaps at some point i will post

pictures so you can see what i am talking about, but i am weak in

the techno area. don't know how to upload but can make an Ofoto

album and get link posted (i think!).
