Guest guest
Hi everyone! I am Connie, 46 yr young here in Central Texas. Here is my situation. Severe overbite (can't see my bottom teeth when mouth is closed) I had braces back in the 70's, so this is deja vu all over again. I had my upper braces put on Monday, Sept. 20th. I feel like such a wimp cause this hurts! I had my gallbladder out last year and was back at work 5 days afterwards as an ER nurse, but this is kicking my ass! I'll post some photos soon, but right now, my lower jaw is rather prominent and my concern is that after my lower jaw is moved forward, it will be even more so. Obviously I have to talk to my surgeon about possible chin reduction when they do the surgery. Anyone else have this? The dr. told me that generally when an overbite is as severe as mine the lower chin is tucked very far back and can even seem nonexistent. I'm sure in those cases, the lower jaw being brought forward is very satisfying cosmetically, however, in my case, I already have a Robin profile and if they bring the lower jaw forward anymore, it will be a small shelf on the bottom part of my face! Thanks for everyones information. I've been lurking for several weeks and appreciate the information and the photos posted. I feel much more educated due to this group! Guest guest
Connie, I am new to this sight also and have been " lurking " for a couple of weeks. I do not have the same situation as you, I have top jaw and genio needing to be done, but I am in Central Texas also and was wondering if you found an OS yet. I am having my surgery Nov. 17th and am very anxious, but nervous. > Hi everyone! > > I am Connie, 46 yr young here in Central Texas. Guest guest
HI connie, I had half your situation, overbite but not much on the profile for lower chin. So I had genio to compensate...for you I would think that by bringing your upper IN, that should offer you some assistance, but as to the chin, I wonder is there a anti-genio? bringint the chin, not the jaw/teeth inwards to smooth the look? and good for you doing this! I am a second timer too. started 1980...and at 32.5 I am a smiling, still braced, straight teeth, nice profile, good bite, more healthy 6 wks post op upper and genio woman!! Stay strong, this has it's moments, but it ain't so bad even when it is...not in the end! JO > Hi everyone! > > I am Connie, 46 yr young here in Central Texas. Guest guest
I believe that Fiddly had something of the problem of a big overbite, but a strong chin. If I'm remembering right, her surgeon slid her chin back a bit, because he felt it would be too prominent if he did not. All corrections welcome, though. Guest guest
Yup, Cammie. I had an overbite/overjet (jet meaning horizontal projection), which my ortho deemed " severe " (but I also had some twisting of my upper jaw too, I think). My surgeon did say I had a strong chin, which I never thought myself, but I guess when they do upper impaction and advance the lower, the chin can end up being more prominent. So he reduced and advanced it. My pics are on site 2 under Fiddlesticks folder. > > > Hi everyone! > > > > > > I am Connie, 46 yr young here in Central Texas. Guest guest
Connie, Hi! I am 36 and had my lower jaw brought forward 3 months ago as I had a bad overbite as well. I also already had a prominent chin so when they brought my lower jaw forward they took my chin back. My profile is now more balanced. The surgery for me was fine once the anesthesia wore off. Other than the day of the surgery I've NEVER had any pain. I've read on this website about a lot of people having to wear the bands and splints for weeks and weeks and having bad pain. I was really lucky in that I didn't have to wear the splint at all and by 3 weeks post op was eating soft food and by 5 weeks post op was only wearing the bands at night and eating basically anything I wanted. I had a checkup with the OS today and he says that I have about 90% of the feeling back in my chin and lower lip. Sorry I rambled on but I wanted to let you know that not everyone has a rough/long recovery. > Hi everyone! > > I am Connie, 46 yr young here in Central Texas.
