Guest guest
Hi Irene, I was in the same position. Fully erupted wisdom teeth that were fine where they were. Over the years my dentists would remark that I should think about having them out, mostly because they were difficult to clean, but I didn't want to undergo any trauma if I didn't need to. Once I began the braces/jaw surgery saga, neither my orthodontist nor surgeon compeled me to have them removed, but they did let me know that if I wanted them removed, it must happen 6 months before surgery to allow for " good bony healing. " Well, my ortho left the state and my new one said, " No way. They must come out. " I have to admit, by this point I was sort of wishing they were gone because I found it so hard to floss back there with the braces on. I had my dentist remove all four with just novacaine (no surgery required because they weren't impacted). It was incredibly easy -- all were out in about 15 minutes and I'm really happy I did it. I'm having lower set-back and this gives my surgeon lots more room. Of course, it's entirely up to you. The feeling I got from my ortho and surgeon was that if I really wanted to keep my wisdom teeth, they'd work around them. Hopefully yours can do the same. That said, I'm glad I got mine out. It's just more room in my incredibly tiny mouth. Maddie

Guest guest
I think it depends on where they are and how they are situated, if your ortho doesn't need the space. Problem is, when they come in they can crowd the other teeth. If yours are already in and not complicating your bite, ask anybody who wants to yank 'em to give you a good explanation about why.
