Guest guest Posted February 15, 2003 Report Share Posted February 15, 2003 hi group, im under new name, usually under blondi3535, have posted several times, im the one who had all the complications with leaks and so on, just was reading posts an saw a few id like to respond to, for rhonda who was asking about revisions, i have had three, ive had the severe reflux, esophagitis, hernias,severe anemia requiring blood transfusions and iron infusions on a regular basis, vit k n b shots, all due to the first mistake my dr made he left a leak in my staple line, the story is very long and complicated, they di a total of 4 surgerys , my original surgery was 12/6/96 , the dr ended up being a nightmare, found out he was being sued for medical neglience and was suspended from the hospital only to be reinstated 2 wks before my surgery, yes i searched and did what i was suppose to do when you have any kinda surgery but unless these drs settle or the ins co does its not public news,,,needless to say hes killed several of his pts along the way over the past 6 yrs, has made headline news,,but after him i went to another dr for help n he did 2 revisions, i got much worse, lost weight down to 98 lbs starting weight was 273 lbs, ended up having a feeding tube which i used for over a year, bedsores on my butt, a private nurse in home, it was awfull , still having same symptoms entire time, spent over 2 yrs in n out of hospitals n then finally met with help of wonderful attorney and his friends dr harvey sugarman in richmond, he saved my life, , when he first met he gave me 1 yr to live if i didnt have another revision, said if 5 people went in operating room only 4 were coming out,, had my blood already for in or was afraid i was going to hemmorage, was a very scary time in my life wasnt sure what was gonna happen, but knew i needed surgery and had heard wonderfull things about dr sugarman, i came out of surgery in fqair shape needing no blood to everyone suprise,,july 3rd 2003 will be 1 ys since surgery.I am no longer on any meds, i can sleep flat first time in 6 yrs, no reflux, im eating again,, no more hernias, rhonda please have revision done before it gets to bad esp if you have a leak thats nothing but bad news,,,i hope you do well with it, if your looking for surgeon i reccommend dr sugarman hes great, hes a professor this is his speciality, also wanted to let everyone know to look for the peoples magazine at the end of feb,, i will be in that issue , they did a article on my story along with a few other people, they started with al roker off today show there showing the bad side and what can happen to some of us with this surgery, dont send me lots of hate mail ok i believe in the surgery i just had awful luck like many othere we just thpught theres so much publicity n the good no one ever hears the bad,, my real name is laura turner,, my personal story is on my attorneys webpage,,,its www,whslaw,com just click on real cases and go to gatric bypass story,,,, i only hope my story and the other peoples story will open folks eyes to the dangers of the surgery and to do carefull research, and do what your dr says,im very comfortable at my weight now, im feeling good, alot of folks ask would i do it again, yes and no id have to say,,,i hope everyone stays heallthy,,,,,and postive,,,,,,,,,,,,,,lauralee Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

It sounds absolutely horrible, what you went through. I do believe we had the same surgeon for the Gastric Bypass. I have not had any complications from mine. I have been one of the success stories. Mine was May 17, 1993. I don't know why things happened the way they have but I wish the best to you. I hope, now that all is good, you will remain healthy and happy.
