Guest guest
it's the same as ruptured, hurneated,or slipped(a misnomer). its more like squished. years of poor lifting habits with a few bouts of straining the milk and one day you bend over to pick up the straw that breaks the camel's back. the disc actually elongates on one side and extrudes the nuclei thru the breached annulus (fiberous rings that contain the nucleus) putting pressure on the nerve. the only cure is time(usually a year) or micro surgery. ruptured in january, started physical training in march and chiro in april. didn't get any worse until jaw surgery and stresses made it flair up. i've got no real back pain just sciatica which limits mobility. if after a year it's still bad i'll have surgery cuz can't even hold down a job as it is now. forces me to have too much asstime but hey i get to bone up on my typing skills! eric > > I agree with you susan. Guest guest
they have a new procedure called microendoscopic disectomy where the incision is only about the size of a dime. they can put a light, camera retractor, and scissors in the tube and snip away the part of the disc thats touching the nerve and best of all done under local. hope it doesn't come to that but time will tell. already got my first no but thats standard procedure to discourage surgery and let time try to heal it. eric > > > > I agree with you susan. Guest guest
only time will tell. if the pain goes away i'll be glad he said no. for most people that is the case. but if it doesn't go away I'll be disappointed i didn't get it done when i had the insurance to pay for it. as i said i'm not working and my cobra has since run out. they go in with a retractor to move the nerve aside while the cut the protruding disc material out of the way and then cauterize it. should be as good as new cuz the disc has already lost its moisture (which they do as we age) and just won't be a shock absorber any more. good thing it's on the bottom L5-S1. once the nerve is relieved I should have reasonably normal function however i don't think i'll ever lift again without first paying attention to what i'm doing. recovery is painless and only a couple of weeks. first thing i'm gonna do is go play a round of golf! eric > > they have a new procedure called microendoscopic disectomy where > the > > incision is only about the size of a dime. they can put a > light, camera > > retractor, and scissors in the tube and snip away the part of the > disc > > thats touching the nerve and best of all done under local. hope it > > doesn't come to that but time will tell. already got my first no > but > > thats standard procedure to discourage surgery and let time try to > > heal it. eric
