Hi Kate - congratulations on your terrific weight loss and commitment to exercise! My hernia was along the incisional line, as is my husband's. His is quite a bit larger, and has prevented him from doing any abdominal work until it is repaired. Pain comes and goes, sometimes with exercise, sometimes if he eats too much. It hurts him the most when he's been to the doctor and they've been pushing on it! He went to his PCP, and then to our original gastric bypass surgeon, who will do his repair and an abdominoplasty (waiting for insurance approval). They actually had a hard time imaging it on the ultrasound, they could see it and feel it, but really had to work on the image. I opted to go to a plastic surgeon who specialized in hernia repair, since I also needed an abdominoplasty and breast reduction/lift. Not all plastic surgeons will do the hernias, so if you opt for that route, make sure you ask before you book the consultation. Guest guest
Welcome to the group Kate. I would check with your pcp and determine whether to go see a plastic surgeon or a general surgeon. He/she would be able to help with that decision. It is my understanding that you will eventually be able to do weights again once the healing done.
