Guest guest
Dear Cammie, Thank you for the nice message. It's day 3 and I'm just taking it an hour at a time now. I have a myo fascial therapist that came by and just spent some time with me, lightly touching my face and giving me encouragement. The breathing is the hardest part of it. I am also congesting some at present. My swelling is pretty awful, but I know the end result will be worth it. As for Dr.'s Poor and O' in Kaiser Oakland. They have been together 15 years. The class is amazing, taught by Kate, their RN. I saw Dr. Slim Bouchoucha on my first pre op several years ago prior to the braces going on. He was only with them a short time. I too was a bit nervous, but every phone call I made to Kaiser Oakland, someone took time to talk to me, reassure me and be there for me. When we did meet Dr. Poor, he was amazing, spending extra time with me, explaining everything and answering every question I had. Dr. Poor is left handed, Dr. O' is right handed, and they are a super team -- Dr. Wong has joined them and I have every confidence in they're expertise. Dr. Poor called me for a phone check yesterday and told me I was doing well, not to overdo it. The class covers everything about the surgery, pre and post. I made a list of questions for my Dr.'s and they answered them all before I left the hospital. My best to you all and thank you for the support. Feel free to ask any questions. Regards, Connie Re: Connie's surgery Connie, you don't sound like a goose to me, at all. You know what's important, and you have it nurturing you! Good wishes to you. Guest guest
Connie, for the congestion -- you've probably tried all this already, but some folks have great luck with a humidifier, or even steamy tub baths (if you're not too woozy to be safe in the bathtub. Do be sure to have someone near enough to rescue you if you need help, and NOT to lock the bathroom door!); something like pseudafed, or even Afrin (or nasal saline sprays) has been helpful to some, as well. Just don't overdo the sprays, because you can then rebound. Some folks have found Breathe-Right strips helpful. And that's neat about the ambidextrous surgical team! Keep on keeping on. It does get better. Cammie

Guest guest
Dear Cammie, Thank you for your email:) I paid attention to all the messages and realized all the surgeries ahead of me gave me lots of valuable information. I purchased a humidifier and it goes room to room when I sleep. The steamy shower broke a lot of the congestion loose this morning. We managed to get the Breathe Right strip off my swollen nose finally. The Kaiser surgeons recommend and prescribe Afrin nasal spray, only 3 times a day. Today's a drooling experience! The nosebleeds have subsided. Thank you for being there, all of you -- it makes me know that tomorrow will be a better day.
