Guest guest
My daughter tested in a way that said her child may have spinal bifida. A terrible birth defect. She decided that since she was not going to have an abortion, she would ignore the test. My grandson will be six soon. No spina bifida. Guest guest
Hi Debby........I just wanted to share with you that this test are SO false-positive that they are ridiculous!!!! One of my older sisters had the exact same experience about 12 years ago......they told her that her son was Down's....she went thru her whole pregnancy try to adjust to it......he wasn't. I can personally tell you of at least 3 or 4 other people (and many more stories) who have had the exact same circumstances. 3 of the 5 sisters in my family decided to never even go thru having the test anymore because it was so ridiculous what we saw some people go thru. The latest one was a couple we knew that tried 12 years to conceive......they finally did, the whole pregnancy they tortured this woman telling her that first the test was high, then they " confirmed " Down's with a sonogram (showed thickening of the skin on the back of the neck) then did test constantly thru the remainder of the pregnancy, and once again, the baby was fine!! Please, I will certainly keep your daughter in prayers (my favorite thing) but try to get her to relax, I know, easier said then done P. ot Prayers needed > > Hello everyone > Id like to ask the group to please pray for my unborn grandchid > and my daughter Cyndie. Guest guest
Your family is in my prayers and thoughts, Debby. My girlfriend's daughter just had a Down's child that is absolutely beautiful. is a Christian that loves the Lord and she said to her mother (my friend..) " Mom, I prayed for a child that would be quiet, patient and happy all the time, and I got one! " " Happy all the time " would really describe a Down's child...they could be a real blessing. I will pray for acceptance, peace and wisdom. Much love, Carol G.

Guest guest
Yhank you so much carol I spoke to my daughter again last night and she is much calmer. Still very much scared but excepting all possibilities. She said she still wants to have this child either way (im glad) She also has decided not to let them do an amnio (needle) test because it could possibly abort the baby. She will however do a blood test and a special ultra sound. It is in Gods hands now. Whatever happens we will be the best grandparents and Cyn will be a wonderfull mother. I thank you for your comforting words. Guest guest
I had the test when I was pregnant with my 3rd child, and not only did the doctor say I tested probably for either Downs or spina bifida, she tried to talk me into an abortion! I said I wanted a second opinion on the test, and (since I lived in Illinois at the time) they sent me to a clinic at the University of Chicago medical center that specializes in genetic counseling and birth defects. At that clinic, they told me that the blood test is highly innacurate in many, many cases. It has to be done at a precise time -- a couple of weeks early or late and it will not work. Then, the number they are looking for is multiplied by a factor based on the mother's weight, but they don't know the correct factors for women who are even mildly overweight (the doctor there said anyone over 180 pounds would probably test positive because the factor is wrong, and at the time I was over 300). They did a high-precision internal ultrasound, and found no problems. My baby girl, who would not be in this world if I had listened to that doctor, will be 12 in April, and she has no problems of any kind, other than a terminal case of beauty! Sending calming energies that all will be well with the babe... ~~ Lyn G

Guest guest
I'm a parent of one of those kinds of kids (not Downs, but a thing called -Magenis Syndrome -- think Downs with Autism, constant infections, sleep deprivation and temper tantrums thrown in). Yes, it's tough. But Sue is right, these things are manageable. I have met some incredible people as a parent of a disadvantaged child -- other parents, doctors, caregivers, teachers, aides. I don't know where we get people like that. You and your daughter, if the worst happens, will find yourself able to step up to the plate. But it's a team effort. Of course, isn't raising ANY child? Right now I think the only thing Cyndie wants to hear is that this baby has a chance to live. She dosnt care that it will e a ds baby. I called her and read some of the posts. I told her that one of them has a living baby who had the same dx as cyns baby. I think she found comfort in this one post. This is so hard. Every one keeps saying its for the best that she loose it WHY is this best. Either way this will never be over for cyn. Yes the pain will lesson but she will never forget and .. This will not be a simple miscarae if this is what happens. She fears she will never be able to have a normal child.
