Guest guest
Hello - I'm in the same boat as you. My surgery for lower and genio is set for 15 December. I'm absolutely terrified now that it's becoming real. physcologically I'm really starting to suffer - so many things going round in my head and no-one to talk to. this probably isn't of much help to you but maybe it helps to know you're not the only one going through this. Are you getting much support from your family - I haven't!! all the best Greg > > Hi everyone, > I have been in braces for about a year and a half. Guest guest
Calm yourself down, first of all. I'd guess that if you'd been through that soft palate procedure, (especially with all that other stuff) you will actually find this easier. Do you know whether you'll be wired, or tightly banded, or without anything? That will make a huge difference. I would recommend that you visit the Zip-N-Squeeze site. There is a recipe book offered there, which has not only recipes but other explanations of what is happening and how to deal with it. Also, I'd suggest getting at least some ZipnSqueeze bags (if you're gonna be wired or tightly banded, particularly) and the jaw wrap. (No. I do not get a commission!) I had success blending 's Chunky Soups. Friends kindly gave me a stick blender, which was wonderful and made for easy clean up. I just put the soup, and later, refried beans and Spanish rice, in a Pyrex measuring cup, 2 cups or larger, stuck the blender in there, liquefied it using broth or milk, and then zapped it in the microwave. easy, easy, and felt good in the tummy, too. Talk with whoever prescribed the anti-depressants and with your surgeon about what to do. Some pills can be pulverized and dissolved in liquids. Some can't -- especially if they're in time release capsules. It may also be that you will need to substitute something longer-lasting for something you've been using. Or it may be that you'll be able to take pills. But do ask about all this. The only thing that kept me from taking pills was that my throat was very, very sore for a few days from the intubation. This was all better within a week. But I was neither wired nor banded. Cammie > > Hi everyone, > I have been in braces for about a year and a half. Guest guest
Hey both of you guys. OK, i was right in your place.... TERIFIED.. i was freaking for days or maybe two weeks before, but definitely not months before surgery. i will tell you this, for some unknown reason, it all sort of goes away aobut 2 days before surgery. i think you just get so used to the idea that this IS A CHOICE you are making, you WILL make it through and SO MANY PEOPLE have had it done, that all your freaking out energy has been spent! This board really really helped me a lot. stay with us and ask anything you need to. We were all frightened and it's amazing how time fades memories. i am 4 months post op and those early days of liquid diet and being swollen seem so long ago. keep in touch. > > > > Hi everyone, > > I have been in braces for about a year and a half. Guest guest
is right. I think we all went through that " freakin out " stage. Before my surgery I had a panic attack so bad I had to pull off the parkway and calm myslef down so I could continue to drive home. I was a wreck. It is easier t osay than to do but try to calm yourself down. You will be amazed at how easy the actual surgery is, the recovery is hard but bearable. You will make it through. In the mean time stay as busy as possible. I spent a lot of time making lists of things I would need and getting my house ready I made a lot of cream soups and pureed meals and froze them so they would just need heated. Try to stay busy and calm, and remeber there are a lot of people here who have been through the same thing as you if you need to talk. Guest guest
It's sort of " the calm before the storm. " And it does happen with many, if not most, people. One other thought to hold onto: This is one surgery where you're going for improvement, rather than fighting a killer disease. I agree that the element of choice is crucial, but when I considered what a friend who had serious cancer surgery was going through, it made my decision seem far less cataclismic. (P.S.: The friend did well, too! Hallelujah!) Cammie > > Hey both of you guys. OK, i was right in your place....
