alex, just as an aside i want to say i also have/had a weak chin. I

had genioplasty(8mm advancement) along with bimax that gave me a

little chin. Insurance didn't cover it but I think it was the part

that worked out best for me. while I don't have a strong chin I at

least have one now. I also found that my posture (tilting my head up)

made it worse so i've been working on stretching the back neck muscles

to allow me to look more forward and my chin gets even more

pronounced. You might consider this an option also. Genioplasty isn't

usually covered by insurance due to its cosmetic nature. my portion

was around 2100 to have it done in conjuction with ortho surgery so as

a stand alone probably around 6000. good luck with your decision.

I know it is a tough decision for you. I've read positive and the

negative. I can say I feel better with the way that I look than

before. My lower was retrusive and gave me a more rounded face. Now

it's longer and I really notice the difference especially on videos

and of course you have seen the comparison photos.

If I had it to do over again I would only do the lower. I think this

is where most of the improvement to the appearance occurs anyway. I

don't know if you have that as an option like I did. Each person is

different and responds to the surgery differently, but just what I

have experienced, I think there is more risk with the upper than what

is mentioned by the surgeons, at least with what mine told me.

The only thing with the lower is the numbness issue. I still have

some of the lingering numbness and I'm told it can even improve more

over the next year or so. It doesn't really bother me and I would

have traded that for the better looks, but I would not have traded

the looks with what I have been through with my nose and voice.

I think this site is very educational, but sometimes more graphic

than one might want before having surgery. This site gives you a

look at what's coming and what to look for after surgery since most

of the time you don't get the whole story for the doctors unless you

ask all the right (specific) questions.

You need to weigh the pluses and minuses for yourself and then

decide if surgery is right for you.

I recently had my ACL reconstructed in my knee and had depression

after that surgery as well, since I was a very active person and I

have not been able to do the things I was able to before.

Surgery is not fun! But from reading the posts most people are

please with their results and would go throught it again.

With any surgery there are ups and downs, and you need to weigh

those and decided what's good for you.

I am having upper and genio in November and have needed to put

everything in perspective expecially having 2 surgeries in one year.

Nobody can make the decision for you. But this site helps you know

what you can expect.

i don't think just lower is an option because if they move my lower foward,

it will surpass my upper. i talked to a lady at church today that had

upper/lower and she's pleased with no after effects. i still am in limbo.

i don't think just lower is an option because if they move my lower foward,

it will surpass my upper. i talked to a lady at church today that had

upper/lower and she's pleased with no after effects. i still am in limbo.

alex, sorry I've yet to get a digital camera. I took some regular

photos and noticed that from the base of my chin it used to go at a 45

degree angle to my adams apple. it now goes back about an inch before

going down at 45 deg. from the front it has a little kirk douglas

thing and looks a little pointier. it's not a dramatic change but an

improvement. eric

Hi ,

While I'm in the throngs of a slow recovery process I'd now say no

to the surgery BUT when this is all over I'm sure I'll be able to

say that I am happy I did it. I don't know if you read my first

posting but it was a cry for help and support. This is a tough road

but the successes of others will help us through. I'm relieved to

have found this support group, no one understands unless they've

gone through these procedures and when a little time passes I hope

to be able to help someone else over the rough spots.
