Guest guest
anna, I had surgery 3 weeks ago and as long as I kept the ice on all the time for the first 5 days and took my pain meds every 3 to 4 hours I was ok. even though my pain meds said 4 to 6 hour I took the in 3 hours if I was feeling any pain. I was off all pain meds 7 days after surgery. I'm sorry you are not doing well. Maybe your pain meds need to be changed, everyone reacts differently and maybe your meds are not working for you. Have you talk to your OS about this? I needed to change my pain med on day 3 because if was making me nauseous. Hang in there, soon it will be a distant memory. Hope you get better soon. > > My name is . I had surgery on lower and upper jaw this monday. > The pain of recovery is much worse than I expected. Everyone spoke of > dis-comfort, but this is pain! Guest guest
I think a lot of people have post op numbness so it cuts down on the pain a lot. Thats why I don't mind that a few months after surgery my gums are still numb---I have felt little pain after some majior adjusting on the braces(extruding three front teeth so a step in the wire on each side) The on fire feeling---I still get that sometimes in my gums and I remeber the worst night of pain was about a week after surgery and it was so sever that the pain medicine was doing nothing. It was just nerves waking back up. So maybe thats whats causing the pain? in which case its a good pain! Stay on top of it with your pain medication, make sure not to miss a dose, don't wait to feel the pain before taking it. It will get better and soon. HAng in there. > > > > My name is . Guest guest
I was fortunate enough to not have a lot of pain afterward. About 2-3 weeks later though, I would get this burning sensation in the right cheeck/nose area. It was the feeling you get right after being hit in the nose, but lasts much longer. Eventually it went away, but it is my understanding, like others have stated, was the nerves waking up. I am at week 4 and have numbness, but no burning, so hopefully it will go away soon for you and do talk to your doctor about pain meds. > > My name is .
