Guest guest
Ooh, that sounds nice! I'm going back to see my Chiropractor next week (6 weeks post op) and I'm going to have to ask her about that. Dunno if I want to have her do much with my jaw until at least week 8 though. Thanks for the info! ~Jen > > Hi, I receive chiropractic care on my back and neck and hips. > > Another chiropractor, who is a husband of a woman i teach with, said > > he did care on a woman who had jaw surgery. he put on rubber gloves > > and went into her mouth and did massage type work in the joint jaw > > area. i have been having a lot of discomfort and am thinking of > > tyring this. Guest guest
, I don't know whether it was or wasn't chiropractic, but I do know that Fiddlesticks had massage treatments in conjunction with her ortho, and that some of the procedures were in her mouth. She also had chiropractic, but I think the massage lady, and not the chiro, was the one who did the in-the-mouth massage. She's out of pocket for a few more days, but I'm sure she'd be glad to tell you about hers, when she gets back. Guest guest
I think, but don't know, that 's work inside the mouth was pre- op. So if I were you, I'd check first with my surgeon's office to see whether he thinks it could do any harm at this point. Guest guest
Hi, Sorry for the delay, but I've been on holiday this week, will be back to normal in a few days. I didn't have chiro care in the mouth, that was courtesy of my cranial-sacral therapist (also a registered massage therapist). She has done this several times, also at one point showed me an exercise to do myself to help release some of the tension in the muscles within the mouth near the jaw joints. As she described it " you will have tears running down your face doing this one " and she was right. I won't describe it as you really need someone to show it to you. I don't mix the two (chiro and massage therapy) although each one is a complimentary treatment to the other. Provided the person has ample training, they can do a tremendous amount to both relieve tension and also adjust the cranial bones (in my case, the palatine bone needed to be adjusted and that's why she worked inside my mouth). I personally recommend both forms of treatment, I am continuing to receive treatments (1x per week chiro, 1x per month massage) and can say I am seeing tremendous improvements in my body, good posture, more flexibility (although that's also due to the yoga I practice) and less tension in the muscles. As with all my treatments, part of the key for me is asking lots of questions, what can I do to help? What exercises will help? Keep in mind that even though your skeletal problems have been corrected, the muscles need retraining in their new positions too. Good luck! > Hi, I receive chiropractic care on my back and neck and hips. > Another chiropractor, who is a husband of a woman i teach with, said > he did care on a woman who had jaw surgery. he put on rubber gloves > and went into her mouth and did massage type work in the joint jaw > area. i have been having a lot of discomfort and am thinking of > tyring this. Guest guest
Actually it was pre and post-op, but my massage therapist would not see me for at least 6 weeks post-op, and I was told by her not to go to my chiropractor for at least 8 weeks, and even then not to have high velocity adjustments. I didn't see my ortho for 8 weeks either. Some things you may just have to put up with until the bones are fully healed (6-8 weeks). Good point, Cammie! I would always err on the cautious side. > > > > Hi, I receive chiropractic care on my back and neck and hips. > > > > Another chiropractor, who is a husband of a woman i teach with, > said > > > > he did care on a woman who had jaw surgery. he put on rubber > gloves > > > > and went into her mouth and did massage type work in the joint > jaw > > > > area. i have been having a lot of discomfort and am thinking of > > > > tyring this. Guest guest
Hi kate, I have had a lot of joint problems post op, my physical thareapist has put gloves on and done some work in side of my mouth, on trigger points and trying to loosen up the muscles so I can open more. it seems to work well. She alos does some side to side stretches to try to help with the lateral movement.
