Guest guest
I dont know what brings it on. I just know i tend to get it alot. If i throw up, its always there. its awful to have. Some days i have really great eating days, and some days i stay sick and throw up everything i eat. Noodles, of any kind, i cant keep down. heavy stuff tends to want to come back up too. i just never really know, till i swallow it..LOL. For some reason, i didnt get the dumping and i can eat higher suger things. I was hoping id get it, but i didnt. I know eating is getting alot better for me, as the weeks go bye, more things i can keep down. Bread as long as its hard, is ok, but soft bread, like say a pbutter sandwich, makes me sick. eggs make me deathly sick for some reason. i can usally eat 1/2 a cup at my meals, unless i drank before i ate. So, i think im doing ok, way better than the 1st few weeks, thats for sure. Hang in there to all you guys who are just getting this done, it does get better each week, i promise, i dont regreat this at all. Has changed my life, but remember, old habits die hard. Im still learning.! In ks nov 18/2003 346/286/180?

Guest guest
Allan, my understanding(this is from my dr.) is that it washes the food through your system too fast and you do not retain the nutrients needed...also it can give you that " way beyond full feeling " and i think it can make you sick...too much in the pouch...my dr.s saying is " food and fluid don't mix " ...that was one thing the dietician really pushed on us...hard to get used to at first, but then one just gets used to it, or at least I have. I wait a half an hour before and an hour after(per my Dr.s advice) seems to work well for me. I also read a post where someone said eat a tomatoe with your food, kinda makes your mouth not so dry, so you will not crave that something to drink. I usually eat some kind of fruit, tomatoe, or pickle, so I can have something juicy and I don't crave the drink. Guest guest
I think the simplified explanation is that liquids push the food out of the stomach faster than the body can absorb the needed nutrients from the food you have eaten. Candi explanation Ok can someone please explain to me the reason for the 30 minute waiting period between eating and drinking when post-op? I have always waited at least 30 minutes after eating before drinking, probably more, but I just want to know the reasoning behind it.. Guest guest
Ok, I froth, but have not thrown up, I just keep spitting out the excess salvia and that has solved the problem. It has happened about 4 to 5 times since my surgery 3 months ago. Guest guest
I have never heard of that. Does it only occur when eating too fast? I ask because I have vomited 2-3 times. I thought it was dumping but I hadn't eaten anything for a couple of hours. When I vomited there was just some thick frothy kind of stuff that came out. No Food or anything. I also felt fine up until a minute before it happened and I felt fine afterwards. Candi Re: explanation Frothing is where heavy amounts of salivia back up into your pouch and make u sick. Guest guest
There are 2 reasons (according to my doctor) to wait after eating to drink. My doctor allows us to drink up until we eat, and then wait 90 minutes. 1. The first 30 minutes is so you don't get sick. Think about a bowl with something in it and you pour water inside. The stuff from the bowl rises up. That is the same with the food. Because our pouch is so small, we can't hold food and water together. 2. After 30 minutes, even though our food has started emptying out of the pouch, there is still some in there. My doctor said if you wait an additional hour, it will keep you full longer. You don't want to push it through if you can help it. Now, I have heard people in this group saying that you can wash away the nutrients, but I asked my doctor (one of the main guys doing this surgery and training other doctors all over the world) and he said that it is not true. The nutrients are being absorbed whether you drink water or not Hope this helps Mindi 277/173.5/125??
