Guest guest
Very well said, Candi!!! IT is so hard to compare to others when on this long windy, bumpy road of weight loss...Your comparisons were very good and I think that sometimes when I read about others journeys, it is so easy to think they are doing better/faster than me...You really put it in perspective though...it's funny at 213 pounds I am in a 20 and getting ready to go into an 18, but I am also 5'6 " , and I tend to wear my weight in my tummy(I will also need a tummy tuck), but I always think that without this surgery I would have just put on weight over the last 3 months, and boy that sure is scary!!! I am down 75 pounds and not afraid to look in the mirror anymore. Life is good and only getting better! Guest guest
Candi, wonderful examples. I'm glad to see this, as an " old " 51 year old, I certainly don't think I'm going to get back in my size 8 clothes that I wore 14 years ago. I still have them. haha Cleaned the garage yesterday and found 10-15 boxes of clothes, all different sizes. Can't wait to go through them now. Joan LAP RNY 11/18/03 Dr. Higa, Fresno, CA 282pre-op/275surg/237/140 For everyone who thinks they are losing too slow.... I have to start by apologizing to Mindi for using her as my example. Guest guest
See. This is really a frustrating thing. It would be nice if someone could standardize this and say at 150 you will be a size 10 but it just doesn't work that way. What a bummer. Guest guest
I left right after I sent that e-mail to go to the doctor. I was thinking as I was driving that when I weighed the least I ever did as an adult (138 pounds) I wore a size 10. Everyone's body is so different it just makes comparisons too difficult. I like you am just way to short for my weight. Now if only I could grow a bit more!!!! Candi Re: For everyone who thinks they are losing too slow.... Candi... I sit here all the time and compare myself to everyone else... I know it's not a competition.. but I so want these pounds gone.. and wear a normal size!! FWIW.. I am just 5' Me at 176 would be a snug 18. The real problem with me is that I am just to short for my weight!!! You are doing AWESOME!!! I can't wait to I can say I lost 80 lbs! You go girl! Re: Carbs Thanks Joan, but I am 2 pounds over the 100 pound loss. That was very exciting........I am at a plateau though now and that stinks....its been over a week since I have lost anything, but people around me say I am losing inches. Its exciting....From a size 26/28 to a size 10/12. Cant wait till I get to the size 4........ Mindi 277/175/125?? Lap RNY 6/26/
Guest guest
Well I do really think that age and frame plays a part in things. I think younger people tend to lose a little quicker as well. Of course attitude plays a part as well and you have a very young attitude my dear Joan!!!!! I am hoping in the long run for a size 8. But I can't imagine getting any smaller than that. I might only get a 10 and I will be happy with that as well. Hey it's nice to dream!!!!! Candi For everyone who thinks they are losing too slow.... I have to start by apologizing to Mindi for using her as my example. Mindi I am sooo happy for you but seeing your size 10/12 made me jealous for about 30 seconds. If I offend you in any way for using your statistics as my example I am on bended knee BEGGING for your forgiveness. When I saw my Dr. a couple of weeks ago he told me I was way ahead of the game with my weight loss. I asked him what he meant and he said that he projects his patients will loss roughly 70-80% of their excess weight. I started at 263 so for me that meant 96-110 pounds loss for me. At 3 1/2 months I had lost 80 pounds. In that context I am in fact " ahead of the game " so to speak. However to show that it is all individual let's compare me to Mindi (sorry again Mindi). Mindi Candi Starting Weight 277 263 Starting Size 26/28 22 Current Current Weight 175 179 Current Size 10/12 16 Now why when we are so close in weight are we so far apart in size? Because there are too many other variables. I am almost 40. I don't know how old Mindi is. Maybe she is younger. I have had two children (9.9lbs and 12.6 lbs). Maybe Mindi has no children and her hips have not spread like the Grand Canyon the way mine have. I am 5' 4 " tall. I don't know how tall Mindi is. Maybe Mindi exercises religiously. I try but I am not the best about getting my five days a week in. Mindi had surgery on 6/26 and I had surgery on 9/8. Over time (or so my Dr. says) your body does naturally pull in to some small degree. So maybe since Mindi had her surgery first she is seeing some of the benefit of that where as obviously I am not seeing as much. I am definitely going to need a tummy tuck when all is said and done. Maybe Mindi has a flatter tummy. I swear I could go down a whole pant size were it not for the excess skin on my tummy (sigh). I am definitely a large frame. Maybe Mindi is a small frame. Bottom line is I just don't know enough to compare myself to Mindi. So you see you can't judge what you are doing by what others are doing. There are too many unknowns. Although we were close in the beginning and are close now Mindi has obviously lost more inches than I have. Why is anybody's guess. What I do know for sure is that I am happy for Mindi and I am happy for me. I would much rather be a size 16 than the 22 that I once was. Both Mindy and I will lose the rest of the weight and keep it off forever and end up at whatever size we end up. we will do it in our own time and at our own speed. Hope this helps some of you who are frustrated with the speed with which you are losing. Remember fast or slow doesn't matter. Getting it off and keeping it off is what counts!!!!!! ) Candi
Guest guest
See. This is really a frustrating thing. It would be nice if someone could standardize this and say at 150 you will be a size 10 but it just doesn't work that way. What a bummer.
