Guest guest
Almost everyone comments that i've lost weight. funnily, it's not weight loss, it's the thinner (narrower) looking face... it's also longer... that's my result... it appears that results vary... you had mentioned that you're looking to improve your profile.. the surgery significantly improved my profile; however, my face is NOT symmetrical anymore if you look at my face from the front... > Ever since Zulu mentioned the long face, whenever I move my lower jaw > forward on my own I keep thinking my face looks longer. Guest guest
Yes, although I can't think of anybody on these sites who has backed out after the prep. But I'm sure there have been some, and some who have simply vanished, never returning to tell what they did or didn't do... certainly there is no law that says once you've decided to do the surgery, you have to follow through. And if you really believe that you're not going to get any benefits from the surgery, by all means stop. Major surgery is serious business, and the recovery from this one can be trying, particularly if your surgeon is one who wires his patients shut. It's a matter of weighing the risks and the benefits and deciding what will serve you best. (I don't think, though, that moving your jaw down gives a fair representation of what your end results might be.) I hope, though, that you will talk with your ortho and your surgeon about all this. It may be that they'll have to undo some of the preparation (Sorry, but I can't remember how far along you are) to keep your bite functional for you. Often they create some pretty out of whack set ups, so that the surgeon can get the corrections he's planned. Ask them also about long-term retention of any orthodontic improvements you've had. Best wishes, whatever you decide, Cammie > Ever since Zulu mentioned the long face, whenever I move my lower jaw > forward on my own I keep thinking my face looks longer. Guest guest
My story is a lil different, people comment now that my face looks more rounder since i had the op, I would attribute some of this to the swelling but thats gone now and people still say that its rounder. I used to move my jaw forward all the time pre surgery to " get a feel " for my new look, but i had upper moved back and lower brought forward so the faces i was pulling in the mirror were completely unrealistic as they did not compensate for the upper work. in fact i was moving my jaw more forward than the surgery was going to thus creating a longer image, are you having upper done too? marie In orthognathicsurgerysupport , ceast36532 <no_reply@y...> wrote: > Yes, although I can't think of anybody on these sites who has backed > out after the prep. Guest guest
Hey Dwilzen You know....I have also been stressing a bit all week from reading this new info re a longer, thinner face and smaller nose from lower advancement. I am only having lower advancement and already have (what i see), a long narrow face with a very narrow and small nose. I like it just the way it is. I went home and was stressing to my boyfriend about not wanting my face longer etc. He pointed out that i am making this assessment of my long face etc from photos of myself - as I was using some photos from a party 2 weeks ago, to show him how long my face already is etc. He said that he has noticed that whenever a camera comes anywhere near me or I have to pose for a pic, I ALWAYS push my lower jaw forward (which drops my jaw making my face appear longer etc), and that I probably don't even notice that i do it as I have always done it! He said that when i am not doing this, my face does not look as narrow and long as in the pictures, and if I like how my face comes out in photos, I should not expect too much shock after surgery. It makes sense to me...... my surgeon has reassured me that i will look 100% aesthetically better, and so i am going to chill out now and trust his word... It is very hard to REALLY see and KNOW what you look like from just looking in the mirror - often photos show how you really look more accurately. Guest guest
Nadine, i also push my jaw forward when i had pics taken before the surgery ( i guess we all did it to improve our appearance)... even then my face didnt look long and thin...after the surgery it did... my ortho and surgeon said i would look a lot better after the surgery too... yes, my profile improved, but the rest was not as good... good luck on your surgery! > > Ever since Zulu mentioned the long face, whenever I move my lower > jaw > > forward on my own I keep thinking my face looks longer. Guest guest
I don't know if it will help you any, but my photos show the before ortho and after ortho and surgery (lower adv. 5 mm, 3 mm to the right). Folks who know me really well say they can see a difference, beyond the straight teeth. i can't. But I can feel it -- and it is good!
